Does anyone have any recent experience with the passport office please? I’ve applied for a renewal (about a fortnight ago) and got a text message saying it was being processed. I’m considering a quick trip to France in the near future and was curious if anyone has any idea of timespans.
Thanks!

If you're lucky you'll have it before Christmas.

There will be loads of inflatable boats lying on the beach at Dover. Grab yourself one - its only 22 miles pf paddling, you won't need a passport - seems to work coming the other way.

On a more serious note if its a renewal I got mine in under 10 days, but that was last year.

Don't worry, you'll be fine.

I ordered mine start of April, got it start of May. Bang on 4 weeks.

A friend just had similar timescales.

From what I've heard it's pretty quick if the application is straightforward and 'computer says yes'; but if it requires human intervention for some reason (like the friend who got theirs back with a typo in the name Shocked) then it's nightmare city

My mate did one recently and it took about 3 weeks. It actually arrived the day before we were flying to France Laughing

Ha, I’m not planning on flying anywhere. I’m going to be working in Hampshire before long so if I’ve got a passport I’m considering putting myself on a ferry to France for a weekend. I’d like to go Portsmouth Caen or Portsmouth Cherbourg but that costs a fortune. I’m thinking a long day trip Dover Calais or even Dover Dunkirk. The silly part of me thinks get a late Friday sailing and dash to the ‘Ring, returning Sunday evening. It’s not my most sensible idea - but I’ve been on the lager….

Two options.
1) Fast tract for the premium service.
Thats effectively within 24hrs, or realistically, the day you submit your application. Provided there is o issue with your application.

2) Shop around for the least busy passport office. It will mean travel/hotel but how desperate are you?

3) Combination of 1 and 2.

It aint cheap but its also an investment that 'can' last for 10 years.
So do the maffs

The nearest appointment (in terms of time) I could get with the passport office was something ridiculous like 6 weeks away and even then, that was in Belfast. .
Someone jumped in on that off chance before I'd even had time to contemplate it.

Oh yes, it's a blue passport, just like my first one years ago.
