PostPosted: 14:08 - 15 Aug 2022    Post subject: New old member checking in Reply with quote

Just managed to sign up to the forum after numerous attempts at trying to tell the form bot that my postcode is genuine.
I was a member here 10-12 years ago when went by the name of FinnDave, on account of my name being Dave and I was living in Finland at the time. My old posts still exist, but are under the name 'gone' now.
Been on two wheels since the late 70s, passed my test in 1980, spent more time on bikes than off ever since.
Owned a good few bikes (and a few bad ones) over the years, from CG 125 to Fireblade and then Harleys.
Had a bit of a tumble at the end of 2015 when I apparently became invisible on a roundabout, result was written off Super Glide Sport and a month in hospital.
Swore I'd never look at a bike again, but recently something cracked and the itch returned. Managed to persuade my wife that without a bike, I'm not really me, so we went to look at a few last weekend.
Surprisingly, as back in my first incarnation here I wrote:

Quote:
The worst bike I've ever owned was an Enfield. Damn gearbox would self destruct regularly, once had to push it home from Regents St. to Acton. Weighed a bloody ton, accelerated like a dead cat and took 10 minutes and a dislocated ankle to start.

Constellation 700 twin, a hideous mistake in the history of bikes.

FD

I now seem set on buying a new Royal Enfield. Had a test ride on a 350 Meteor last Saturday and am well on track to welcoming it to its new home. Not quite the Harleys I used to have, but not as far removed as you might have thought.

I quit Finland about ten years ago, now live in a village in Oxfordshire.

Dave

welcome back.
Enfields are really popular these days, so youve probably made a good choice. i have been tempted by the 350 classic myself.

The new Royal Enfields are interesting machines. I haven't pulled the trigger on one yet; apparently the right one hasn't come along. Here is an interesting article on a RE 350 called the "Hunter". Similar to the Meteor, but a little more standard and a little less cruiser. Appeals to me more than the Meteor.

Welcome back. Wink

Welcome back Thumbs Up

I’ve had a Meteor since March so if you want any extra info feel free to DM me.

I love it, but as JeffyJeff has mentioned, I’m very tempted to chop it in for a Hunter when they come out, but that’s because I’m not a cruiser guy. As an ex Harley rider I think you might enjoy it a lot.

There’s a really healthy Facebook Enfield community too, the specific Meteor one is full of useful info.

Everybody knows so many Daves that it's practically law now that they have to be given an illustrative prefix: Fat Dave, Smelly Dave, Tights Dave, LowFlying Dave.

You could revert to FinnDave if you want. I don't know what the rule is about changing names, I've never done it. Someone with further knowledge will be along shortly, I'm sure.

Hi, Dave and welcome back....You've been missed.
A word to the wise: You won't be able to post on here as freely as you once did as the forum is now policed by a small number of wokesters who will cancel you if you utter anything that hurts their feels.
You have been warned!

Or as I put it. Treat others how you'd like to be treated.

I like to be treated mean...keeps me keen.

Those words seem to be edging towards scooterphobic judgementalism
and thereby promoting hatred and violence, they're making me feel somewhat unsafe here.
I may have to report you for that

That'd be good, I'm used to that name.

Missed seeing yesterdays posts as I was out buying my Meteor and finally riding it home in the rain. Marvellous - after weeks of never ending sunshine, I buy a bike and the heavens open. On the plus side, we didn't need to water the allotment last night (from a well, no hosepipes would have been abused).

Today's job is to make more room in the garage by taking a car load or two to the local dump. Too much junk in there that 'might come in useful one day'. Getting the bike in was a somewhat fraught operation - not so many years ago I had two Harleys and a car in there!

Cheers, Dave/FinnDave/Harley Dave/ Dave the bass (I answer to all of those and more).

What a load of bollocks. The politics section is pretty much exclusively a right wing fantasy/culture wars echo chamber. The idea that the forum is "woke" in any sense is laughable.
