Playing Witcher 3 with my trusty Xbox 360 controller and it's getting a little tired. Tempted to replace it with an Xbox One version.

The "best" one would be the Elite but that's north of £150 Shocked Probably the best bang-for-buck might be the standard XBox One wired controller but nobody seems to have that or even the wireless version in stock, everyone keeps touting "PowerA" Thinking

Any recommendations for an Xbox controller?

Expect to buy 2 30 quid ones a year.

Problem solved.

I've got an Afterglow controller... It hasn't died yet. I do mainly use keyboard and mouse for gaming though, and only use the Afterglow for racing and arcade type games. It survived an entire winter of Dirt Rally 2, so it must be pretty tough.

I also used Xbox 360 controller, for years. Then when it died I got the standard One S controller with a 3m USB cable, worked great actually. Even the then new trigger rumble function worked in Microsoft published PC games. My issue is/was the built quality of the One S controller and even the latest Series (X) controller though. It's just poor. The thumbsticks and triggers are good, just as they ever were, but the buttons and d-pad are just cheap, so is the controller body. Comparing it purely to the original Xbox 360 controller.

That being said, the Xbox controllers on PC/Windows has been the ultimate plug 'n' play solution ever since Xbox 360 release. PC/Windows games are made for those controllers, unlike when you use a Playstation or any other brand controller that tend to have issues with mapping and game interface. The situation might have improved since I last played PC games.

Interestingly enough though, some of the PC/Windows games do utilise Playstation controllers as well. For instance, when you use a PS4/PS5 controller in Witcher 3 the game changes the UI and mapping, even the controller light works as it would on a Playstation.

TL; DR: Get the standard Xbox One/Series controller. You already know the 360 controller worked great in 99% of the games.

We are a hosehold of gamers.

We got the Xbox One and PS4 at launch ~ 8 years back. We have replaced the Xbox Controller at least once per year.

We also had the Elite Controller and which died within 6 months, we replaced it when the v2 Elite Controller 2 came out, this lasted less than 2 months.

I've just sold my original PS4, complete with original controllers. (Sure I'm quite handy and I have replaced the thumb pads a few times). But I wish Microsoft would use whoever makes Sony's controllers.

Xbox Series X/S, that's the keywords I should have been searching for Thumbs Up

Still not much stock about though so I'll go with Nobby's idea. One of those times Amazon prime turned out to be cheaper and quicker as I've ordered a Logitech F310. £25 (free P&P) and should turn up tomorrow Smile

I have a 360 controller which I use for PC gaming and have recently been given an original xbox one, my first console since PS2!

The 360 controller works perfectly despite it being.... god knows how old! It honestly must have thousands of hours on it and it works like new.

I get rare but occasional joystick issues on the One controller, it seems to stick on the right hand side for some reason, and I know for a fact it was barely used before being given to me, I doubt it's done it's first thousand hours.

If my 360 control ever breaks I will be replacing like for like if possible.

Depends on the needs, but my Razer Wolverine is ace, the Razer tournament ones are great too.

Scuf are decent if you can get one, but the Razer ones are ace.

Wouldn't touch another Xbox controller. I've gone through 4 elites, 3 normal pads and its just not worth it anymore.

A Bit of preamble, I'm a massive game collector I have most consoles that exist since the master system 900+ games and Probably 50 + controllers.

For PC I use a Power A Wired Xbox Controller. It cost £20 as is as good as any first party controller I have used. Only thing that isn't that great is the Rumble, it just doesn't feel as good as a modern controller, it feels sloppy. Everything else is good it's a bargain. I've had it about a year and it has only had light use but is still like new.

Maybe I'm gentle on controllers but I haven't really broken one since I was a kid and had shit ones (have replaced thumbsticks 3 times on PS4 Controllers and 2 batteries on PS3 controllers though)

An update on the Logitech F310 I bought...

I'd have to say it feels surprisingly well made. It's a dark blue metallic coloured plastic that looks much better than in the photos.

Main differences are obviously the stick positions. Depends on the game but I quite like the symmetry. The sticks also feel a touch bigger than my old XBox 360 controller and the return's better, doesn't feel like there's the same sloppy dead zone (time will tell on that though.)

It's designed for smaller hands which suits me. It also doesn't have a rumble motor so quite light. Very easy to hold with index and middle fingers hovering over the L/R buttons and triggers (big win in God of War.)

Overall I'd say fantastic value, versus a Chinese clone controller which is similar money. I'll update if it falls apart in 6 months Smile

What's it been? A month...

R1 button is starting to fail. TBF I am playing Dark Souls 3 and before that God of War so pretty brutal treatment! The shoulder buttons are standard PCB-mount tactile switches so I'll upgrade them to some high-end 2.5Nm switches as I quite like this controller.

0ddly enough a button on my ps4 controller stopped working last Saturday. opened it up and found that a dog hair had somehow lodged itself between the button and the sensor.

Probably the Xbox Elite Controller. After that i would say Xbox One for all kind of games and PS4 for platformer/fighting games. The Ps5 Controller is ok, the d-pad is jank though. Same with Nintendo Pro Controller. Super janky D-Pad.

For using on PC, this is better than xbox one controller, or xbox 360 controller.

yes I know it looks like a play station controller but you can still use it like an xbox one on PC.

The quality is much better than xbox ones including afterglow as I've got those too.
