Go fund yourselves, you bunch of commies Razz

I'm no lover of the SNP or any other Scottish Party for that matter. If there was an independent Scotland Nicola and her cronies would be out the door along with the no longer required SNP.

We'd still be stuck with Scottish versions of the UK's dodgy current parties.

I don't think you would. I think the majority of Scots have a fondness for the idea of a socialist republic, a one party state. It will be very interesting to see what you do to yourselves. I hope you like concrete Laughing

A note on a recent death
We dream of a world where all can live long and die surrounded by family and friends. Where palaces are open to all, and nobody is born superior to others.
Monarchies are a roadblock to that destination, and, in the present moment, the future seems very far away.

But, if we ask questions - perhaps people will answer their way out of fairy tales.

It’s important not to shy away from what it means when a monarchy loses its head. The institution does everything it can to ensure dissent is stifled during the transition from monarch to monarch. Opportunities to question this transfer of power are limited, people are arrested for heckling proclamations, others are given preventative orders on assembly and travel. Emotionally invested people are prone to attack those who question their cultish faith…

Here’s to those of you who, in your own way, are resisting the system - either in public and out in the open: with banners and conversations, or clandestinely: with stickers, graffiti, and occupations; or amongst your peer group: asking questions, telling jokes, setting caged minds free.

I wouldn't suggest they look to be one. Nor would I suggest we look to be a republic. I'm never in favour of change for change's sake, nor out of motivations of hate and resentment.

Jordan Peterson has an inciteful comment on this:

<spoiler alert> he doesn't have anything nice to say about Trump!

People have the right to critisise, FFS I do it to politicians all the time but the Queen wasn't a politician, ahe was the head of state for the country. People are saying she was a colonist, an oppressor of ethnics. I'll tell you one thing, for all her faults she didn't order the kiling of innocents like some well thought of asshole, did she Nelson.

Eh? Britain was practically an ethnostate when she took the throne, and she cheerfully waved as Britain became the wonderfully diverse utopia it is today...

One good thing is it highlights the hatred diversities and shitlibs have for Britain. As for the monarchy, I can see the commonwealth falling apart under Charles, a lot of countries were sticking with it just because of the status quo.

One thing is the Scottish republicans can get to fuck after this.

She probably wanted privacy but I do wonder if it was a final act to try and prop up the union, one of the few things she apparently did (kinda) publicly express an opinion on.

He has a pompous way about him. I think William would be a lot more likable, and would be better for a 'modern' monarchy, when like it or not people are questioning the relevance of the institution.

I thought every thread, pub conversation etc.. ultimately lead to shagging Riley.

All roads lead to Rome and all that..

Charles gave his staff redundancy notices during a church service for the queen. Tut Tut

Anything good on telly that doesn't involve ripping the head off it to Rachel Riley?

But you lot love talking about race? White privilege, how black people are oppressed, which's precisely the point I was responding to...

If the Queen is being accused of oppressing 'ethnics', yet when she took the throne (according to the Guardian) 'In the early 1950s there were only a few tens of thousands of non-whites in the UK', and there's (low estimate) over 8 million now, wouldn't that suggest the contrary?

You could also draw the conclusion the only country she allowed to be colonised was this one Thinking

There haven't been any redundancies they just pointed out less will soon be needed and are in fact obliged to let them know ASAP
It would be just as easy to make up some negative story about keeping it quiet until it was out of headlines then couldn't wait to get rid.
In other words it's all spin and early warning of media tactics to invent negative storylines.
They don't like Charles, he will be fair game whereas the Queen was almost untouchable except through attacking her family

(deserved or not I am no royal fan - but the evil tactics of lying media are a major destructive force in this country)

The announcement of staff redundancies could have been timed better....I'm guessing that the staff knew redundancies were likely but as they're very much a part of the show they'd surely be in mourning too.

The information is correct as in staff were notified of redundancies during a memorial service.

The monarchy is still surplus to requirements.

The mainstream media have and will always be steered by their owners and shareholders.

It's sad that an old lady has died.

PS
The roads will be quiet on Monday Thumbs Up

Pat, please explain this throwaway statement (yourself). What are the "requirements"?
Personally, I think our monarchy will continue to outlast all your dodgy presidents and republics. Do you have an inkling of why it has so far?
Here's a clue: half of the US despised Trump as their head of state, the other half despises Biden.

I do like the principle of a figurehead head of state with no power, but not so keen on a hereditory one and I fucking hate the fact that they don't pay any tax and are exempt from most legislation.

So typical socialist resentment then, nothing more. No thought behind it, just knee-jerk reaction to someone who isn't held to the same rules as you. But the monarchy is not about the individuals. It is about the institution and its meaning.
Again, hatred and resentment with no understanding.
