Problem with a new front lift arm and a very old stand. The three-tube, horizontal slider bit won’t slide as per the instructional video and I don’t see how it could since it is touching the floor, which is concrete and flat.

Sort of sussed it. The bottom of the left leg had lost a square, black plastic insert which I thought had just been there for appearance’s sake. I replaced it with the one from the top on the other side and the extra 3mm or so in height was just enough to allow the front lift arm to slide. It also means the front foot on the other side (last picture) now touches the floor.

Still, in use the front lift arm felt a bit of a faff, although the bike is held very securely. I guess you get familiar with the operation. Lowering the bike was a puzzle at first too, the main thing being to remember to slide the assembly to the left so as not to foul bodywork.

So, the Abba Stand has always been great, but at the moment I’m less certain about the front lift arm.

It's a bit of a faff. But then I feel that way about the superbike stand too. They're both definitely more hassle than paddock stands. But both the front arm and the superbike stand hold the bike so securely, that for me it's worth it.

You wouldn't want to be using them to change tyres at a race meeting though...

I just gently lift the super bike stand, slide the front arm bit across before lowering the super bike stand and finally lifting the rear wheel off the ground.

Easy just takes a little bit of balance
