Hmmm.. it didn’t cut much ice in 2006 but I understand Netflix series ‘The Crown’ picked up on it. I’m not convinced this was realistic. |

If so, why now, do you think? Do you think it will change much under King Charles? Do you think they do?
Some are just talking about no longer having the British monarch as their head of state. That's not the same thing as leaving the Commonwealth.
In Australia it seems to be the usual loud mouthed lefties shouting it up. I suspect they're in a minority.
Give it a generation though, and that might well change. After I've gone, I don't care, they can fuck themselves over all they want, pledge allegiance to the CCP or whatever other crap show they like...I don't have kids to worry about ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Tradition is a guide. The traditional has survived because it works, has been thoroughly tested. It's also a base on which communities are built. That's not to say things can't change, may even need to, but throwing everything out willy-nilly with nothing to replace the needs it fills is daft. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

You did note the difference I take it, before you said half want out of the Commonwealth? ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

Evolution vs Revolution |
I thought we were doing pretty well with the former overall. The latter will create many more mistakes and disasters, that's for sure, with no guarantees that we'll go in the right direction - even unlikely that we will.
But impatient children will demand! ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017

How are we "relying on pomp"?
And what would you like to see us taking pride in?
And:
Quote: | When has revolution been mentioned in this thread or in any of the other threads at BCF on the royals over the last couple of weeks? |

And my other two questions in that post? |
Needing some random figureheads who get wheeled out in order to feel proud or have a focal point for national identity is a dependence in my opinion. |
Food is a dependence. So are you going to give it up? How can a nation not be dependent on anything? You want to be dependent on government. I presume that comes from you having no confidence in your own abilities.
And you are just projecting a faulty assessment on other people anyway, through your lack of understanding.
Quote: | It seems that really is the only role they have, they provide an image for people who cant think of anything with more depth. |
It seems to you. The lack of depth comes from your lack of understanding.
Quote: | And your other question. Well pick anything you like, from our great nation, industrial, scientific, arts, social there's no doubt we have made an enormous contribution to world history. |
Someone has hacked your account!
I haven't heard such hypocrisy in all my life.
Quote: | None of it dependant on the monarchy though and I would say these achievements were made despite the monarchy and we can achieve far more by leaving such an anachronistic organisation behind. |
So you think that without having had a monarchy, we would have been able to make all the contributions we have to the world? You don't know much about history, do you?
Well, you're entitled to your opinions. Give it another generation and you'll probably get what you want. But I'd be happy for us to hold a referendum on it right now. ____________________ Chickenystripgeezer's Biking Life (Latest update 19/10/18) Belgium, France, Italy, Austria tour 2016 Picos de Europa, Pyrenees and French Alps tour 2017 Scotland Trip 1, now with BONUS FEATURE edit, 5/10/19, on page 2 Scotland Trip 2 Luxembourg, Black Forest, Switzerland, Vosges Trip 2017
