I experienced my motorcycle to wobble and when I want to tightened up steering head, I realized that when I turn the handlebars, there's notch/center stop.
Tightening the adjustment nut (below the upper triple tree) 1/8 turn, the handlebars is smooth and there's no play when I grip the lower end of the fork with both hands and jerk it back and forth.

After I tightening large central bolt of the upper triple tree, the notch/center stop is coming back(top fork bolts is still loose). If I loosen the central bolt of the upper triple tree, the notch/center stop is gone. So I tightening a slightly tight. Notch/Center stop is a bit softer. I ride the motorcycle for a week and the wobble is gone.
*My motorcycle still use ball bearings

Do I doing right?
Do I still need replace the bearings? If yes, is it okay to ride for another 3 months? Because I live far from the city
Thx in advance

Might be worth mentioning manufacturer/model/year but yes you don't want it too tight or too slack. Last bike I did it was tighten up till the slap had gone and then give it a quarter turn more.

Notchy bearings is normal after a long time riding. Yes they will need changing but if it's going to be a while then it should do no harm unless you notice the wobble returning.

Check your rear tyre. If it's badly worn or very flat in the middle, that might be the caue of your wobble as much as the bearings.
