'Aks' instead of ask

Starting all sentences with the word 'so'

Use of the word 'journey' to describe one's life

A couple from work; ‘reach out to’ instead of contact, and ‘learnings’.

Two I get at work a lot lately,

Looking at things through the 'lens' of some old shit, i.e. item taken at random from the work website "reviewing their curriculum to find creative ways to embed an anti-racist lens into their teaching."

We are now switching to an outcome based working system (what were we doing before?)

"It is a way of planning work that focuses on outcomes, rather than activities
The council’s 2022 blueprint sets out our ambition to be an outcomes based organisation: We are committed to using OBA as an approach to how we plan, monitor and improve what we do. "

"reflection"

One of the main reasons I will never do a post graduate certificate, you have to submit essays on each module consisting of your "reflection" on how you got on with the course. It seems to have been given equal weight to the essay you do showing you were paying attention to the content of the course and know what the hell you're on about.

I do wonder if you put something like "On reflection, I learned nothing new on this course, it was a total waste of my time and effort. I should have just carried on doing what I'm currently doing and saved a great deal of time and money. The only thing of real use this module achieved was to fill in 8 of the 32 mandatory CPD hours I have to do this year.". How would that be marked?

I personally am incapable of taking it seriously. I now have to write a "reflection" paragraph about any of the mandatory CPD I log (and the system spits its dummy if you don't do at least 100 words). Nae fucker ever reads it because if they did, they'd see mine contains a review of the quality of the lunch or tea and biscuits provided with the course. Tray bakes usually score highly.

That seems to translate to "the ends justify the means" Shocked

One Americanism I hope doesn't come over here is "top of mind" in place of something like "cognisant of" - from same sort of people who brought us "I can't speak to that" Sad

I've been doing a lot of contract work with Canada lately and TBH I've not really come across anything grating so it least this stuff isn't endemic.

More of a 20th Century one than 21st, but it still annoys the crap out of me.

"Leverage" instead of "use".

And don't get me started on pronouncing "H" as "Haitch" instead of "Aitch".

Although it is pleasing that "LGBTQ" pronounced as "El Jibberty Cue" is catching on in the office.

"Wellbeing".

And the use of the word "Space" as in "safe working space".

I had a wee word with a snowflake in my office yesterday (I'm not in any way part of her chain of command, just a colleague) about not getting herself worked up about things that are other peoples problems/business on their behalf. Along the lines of yes I'm also aware that receptionist A has been exchanging text messages of an intimate nature with nurse Bs boyfriend but it's absolutely none of my business and in no way affects how I go about my work. You should do the same.

There ended my efforts on ensuring wellbeing. There may yet be repercussions but I doubt they will be beyond being asked not to do it again.
