Electrics are a mystery to me, I need to hire a generator to run a Concrete mixer with a 550 Watt motor, can I run it with a 2.6 kVA generator or do I need 4 kVA unit? Thanks.

I'd run a mixer from a standard 3kva 110v tranny without any worry. Can't see an issue.

2.6kVA = 2.6kW so plenty for 550W (0.55kW)

Thanks all, 2.6 kVA it is then. Far easier to transport 1/2 a mile with no vehicle access.

Yep, 2.6kVA roughly translates to 2.6kW which is 2,600W. It should be fine - most of the issues with running inductive loads like electric motors are down to inrush currents on startup. Thumbs Up

Only other thing to be wary of is what voltage your mixer is and if the generator is compatible; if the mixer is designed for site use then it is likely to be 110v and will have a site plug type, if it's intended for domestic use more likely to have a 3 pin plug and 240v. Just check your genny has the output and socket(s) and/or adaptors to suit. Thumbs Up

Yeah, it varies but I wouldn't want to put a 2kW load on a 2.6kVA gennie.

I was chasing down an electrical problem on my brother-in-law's car and connecting the battery showed a 1A surge which settled down to <200mA. Just the startup on the entertainment system Rolling Eyes
