The age old problem...
a friend is selling a ktm exc f250 6 days 2018. I'm after a bike for general green laning and early stages enduro etc. I understand these bikes require more maintenance than road bikes but is the 5/6 hrs oil change, 30hr top end rebuild necessary or only for raced bikes? I want a bike that I can ride to lanes etc not carry in a van everywhere.. what are your opinions on this and any recommendations for a different bike for what I'm suggesting?

Yes, it needs that maintenance.

Remember kids, bikes aren't like lego. You can't easily take a part from one bike and then fit it to another.

I am not sure about that particular model of KTM,but my 2004 450EXC has now done over 7,000 miles with only regular maintenance like tyres, one set of chain and sprockets, oil and coolant changes. It has been raced in 3 hour H&H as well as in various enduros and quite a bit of greenlaning.

I have heard horror stories, but nothing that could not be averted by regular cleaning and using decent engine oil.

I do know a few people who have had problems with their dirt bikes, but only because of irregular maintenance.
