One thing I wondered about is when breakdown is bundled with your insurance.

When I called the breakdown number given by my insurance, it was the insurance company who answered and arranged the breakdown to come round. Gave them an address, that wasn't the police station of course but when the breakdown guy realised the bike was at the police station, he didn't want to deal with it initially as he considered it a theft/insurance/assessment issue and not breakdown. He was OK with it though when we wheeled it out into the street though and treated it as a breakdown.

He told me he has to send a report to the insurance company (I guess because the insurance company is later billed for the breakdown work?). He kindly put that he was fixing an electrical issue and didn't mention that it was related to a theft (like he was supposed to apparently).

Was thinking in the future of just having breakdown cover separate from insurance (if that's not too much more expensive), so as not to have to go through insurance for everything.

Thief got away on the back of his mate's scooter.

WTF happened to tactical contact? They deserved to be rammed into a bus shelter. Sorry about your bike mate.
These fuckers deserve to be tied up, put into a sack with a few paving slabs and launched into the sea.

Police told me that they're not generally allowed to ram at any kind of speed, only chase. Problem is they say the chavs just dumped the bike across a narrow street to block their car from chasing, then made off on the scooter. Guess there's not a lot they can do in that case..
