PostPosted: 12:23 - 27 Nov 2022    Post subject: Recommend me a dash cam? Reply with quote

Hi all you won't know but I had an accident in the summer on the MT-07, stupid woman in a 4x4 pulled out of a car park less than 2 metres in front of me, I ended up with four broken ribs, broke both elbows & severe lacerations to my knees. The knock on effect was £12000 in lost earnings plus a £1500 parts bill plus I still need to get a new helmet & jacket, another £500. I can't really afford to lose £14000 & whilst a dash cam won't stop an accident it should pave the way for me to sue the bastards in the future.......should I survive. Before anyone says it I couldn't claim off of her as there were no witnesses & no CCTV. I've been looking at the Innovv K3 as there's a seller on eBay selling them for £279.99 but I admit I don't know much about dash cams just wanted some opinions. One that can be hard wired for constant power & insurance approved would be nice too. Any help much appreciated ta! Thumbs Up

I bought an Innovv. It failed after six months and the warranty claim was refused because there was a cable tie mark on the cable going to the camera.....

Sorry to hear.

I don't have one myself but have certainly heard good things about the Innovv; it's probably what I'd go for.

You might also want to consider the legal viewpoint here (this is from well-respected bike solicitors White Dalton):

I wouldn't want one wired in and recording every single ride. I engage in far too much dickheadery and lawbreaking for that.

I've noticed my system records the speed ~10mph less than it should maybe as a favour? Not that would help you, sir Wink

I'm still jizzing my pants at the novelty of effortless litre bike pace and mega torque, it would need to conceal a few
more mph than that. Embarassed

Got the DV688 on the VFR and the DV988 on the Fireblade. Very good for the money (£120ish)

The Innovv camera decided it wouldnt work. After some pissing about (under their instruction) that involved me having to buy a new memory card I sent it back to them and they diagnosed that the camera part had failed because of the cable tie mark. As they wanted £75 for a new camera I declined.

Do you want a bike mounted cam, that won't catch some stuff because it's not aimed in the right direction, or do you want an action/helmet cam?

My gopro hero 4 session is still going, 2016 purchase. It caught this, but a bike mounted one probably would have too...

I've been using a front & back K3 set for the last 18months, even swapped them to a new bike earlier in the year. Never had a problem. Admittedly I don't check the recordings very often as they are a evidence gathering rather than action cameras, but when I do it's good quality footage and decent sound. Expensive and fiddly to fit if you've got a lot of tupperware to remove, but mine have been reliable and do the job.

Yes, that one. They're a Chinese company. Very happy with both, had the DV688 for 2-3 years now. The real thing to watch is you get a decent (not fake) SD card for them. That's the only thing that's caused issues (other than user error).

Hi all I ended up buying the Blueskysea DV988. I fitted it recently but it isn't working properly. It boots up fine but switches itself off after only a minute or two. I'm taking the power off of the auxiliary power output from the bike. Should I strip it all off & send it back or could it be something simple? Cheers.

Does it record to SD card and is it fast enough.
Even very fast cards are cheap these days older ones have very poor write speeds so a camera that can't tell you off for being a dick might well just turn the lights off.

Has anyone used a Techalogic DC1? I have more than 1 bike and hence was looking at a helmet mounted camera of some kind. This records forward and backward which seems like a good idea.

The major downside is the need to change the thing each ride & not sure I would be disciplined enough to do it.

If it turns on automatically with the ignition then I'd suggest you double check the settings. I have a similar model and mine turns on and displays the cameras but after two minutes switches to speedo mode.

Hi no it doesn't come on automatically I have to manually push the power button each time. Cheers.

Hi I fitted it with a Sandisk Extreme Pro gold or something 256gb. I haven't checked to see what it records like as it doesn't get that far as it turns itself off after a minute or two. Cheers.

I don't think you have it wired correctly. You should have the red wire connected to main power (i.e. the battery via a fuse) and the white wire to auxiliary power (i.e. comes on with the ignition key) with black going to ground.

Hi as I said earlier I've got it wired to the auxiliary output off the bike as this only gets power once the ignition is switched on. So you think that could be the issue? Thanks for the help so far.

Yeah, the unit will want power 24/7 on the red wire for the "parking bump" feature. The white/aux wire is its signal to wake up for a journey (and go to sleep at the end.)
