Well, after more delays due to work, moving house and then getting covid, I have finally got all the dates sorted for the training and tests for Mods 1 & 2.

I was hoping to have done this in the summer but just couldn't swing it. I was a bit hesitant booking this all in for Nov/Dec but I just couldn't wait any longer. Have to invest in some thermals now! Very Happy

Woow, this is becoming longer than game of thrones intro Laughing - keep up updated mate.

I found Mod 1 to be the harder of the 2 tests. In MOD2, as long as keep your nerves in check in the first 5 minutes then you will enjoy it.

whatever you do, don't dwell on what happened and always concentrate on the next maneuver/turn/signal or whatever you were told to do Laughing

best of luck

Good luck, as others have already said, I found my MOD 1 harder than my MOD 2 as well Laughing

Well, I've had a great couple of days riding around on the GS500 and then the Bandit 600. I'm confident on the road so far but after the Mod1 practice this morning I'm realising how difficult some of the slow speed manoeuvres are. I was a bit wobbly in the first slalom, couple of u-turns were foot down. The higher speed stuff was OK although as it's been very wet and cold I was a bit more cautious.

Test is on Tuesday and I'm a bag of nerves! Very Happy

I Passed!!! Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

I picked up a couple of faults:

First one was missed/late obs going into the slalom. As this was my weakest section I was so fixated I started to pull away before the shoulder checks then added them in a fraction later, DOH!

Second was the hazard avoidance speed at 49km.

I'm happy with that though.

Mod2 next week Very Happy

MOD 1 is way easier if only because it's you against yourself, whereas 2 is you against everyone else on the road. And everyone else is a). still pissed / stoned from last night b). had a massive run in with the mrs this morning c). very, very late d). has no license or insurance e). getting a handjob f). posting a new meme on facebook g). reading this thread h). unaware that they are suffering from chronic dementia and should have surrendered their license three years ago i). Latvian j). 16 k). just been stung by a wasp l). trying to breast feed m). going to brake really, really suddenly sometime about.....NOW!!!

just scanning that back now puts me in mind of Borges' entry from a Chinese encyclopaedia - ‘animals are divided into: (a) belonging to the Emperor, (b) embalmed, (c) tame, (d) suckling pigs, (e) sirens, (f) fabulous, (g) stray dogs, (h) included in the present classification, (i) frenzied, (j) innumerable, (k) drawn with a very fine camelhair brush, (l) et cetera, (m) having just broken the water pitcher, (n) that from a long way off look like flies’ (quoted in Foucault's The Order of Things)

Cheers Brun, even my instructor said as much after I'd finished the test. I can't believe I'm one test away from the full licence, something I've dreamt of since a small boy Very Happy

Sods law that we get the annual two days of snow right at the wrong time. My bikes due in for first service in a week
and I have another 150 miles to crack out before the magic 600 miles. It's too bloody cold for that kind of nonsense.
That said my chain has become so slack that I'd rather not do another 150 miles on it before I'm paying someone else
to tighten it back up to spec. It may have to be a 450 mile service unless it perks up a bit over the next week.
