Hoots Mon!

Linked smoke alarms? How the fuck are you supposed to know which one to whip with a tea towel when you burn the toast?

Got this annoying beep from the smoke alarm, still hasn't stopped.

The ones that say you can't replace the battery can be broken into to reveal an entirely replaceable 9v battery.
You do normally have to snap something off to get into them though. Tbh it's probably as cheap to replace the
whole alarm. Fire angel alarms are decent quality. These are a good price for a pair

As for linked mains alarms on their own circuit breaker. I put those in my rental properties in order to be up to spec.
Could have used battery ones but I'm the belt and braces type when dealing with something I may one day rely on
in court. The house I'm living in now has one on the upstairs landing, one in the downstairs hallway. And 2 carbon
monoxide detectors one outside the cupboard where the boiler is installed and one in the kitchen where there
used to be a gas hob although that one wasn't mandatory.

So I upgraded the auld smoke alarms for new 10yr units. Still for main powered systems but with thier own little 10yr battery pack.

Got the bike engine rebuilt. Engine started and nicely warmed up. Was literally about to put my helmet on when the gritter came past the end of the drive.

I'll wait for a few cars to have gone past before going out now!

The Amazon is one of the largest rivers in the world. Over time its waters stretch towards the sea but some falls between cracks in the earth. These fissures reach deep into the earth and fill to form subterranean pools. Millions of years undisturbed by mankind fish have been swimming in this total darkness, specially adapted to their environment. These fish care more about Harry and Megan I do.

The national soap opera does seem to be curiously prominent when you enter "UK news" into Google/DDG these days. Don't know why. Perhaps people are trying to distract themselves. It reminds me of this (if you ever played Max Payne you'll know):

not today but yesterday. driving along a b road, approaching a roundabout and im pretty sure it was a couple of bike thieves that were trying to join my lane from a track on the right.
dressed in track suits, with scarves covering their faces up to the eyes, and no helmets. on a nice looking red bike, possibly a Yam Tracer.
the not so nice part of me caused me to slow right down, hoping theyd pull out in front of me. fortunately the opposite lane was busy or there may well have been an incident. Evil or Very Mad

Quite why the fuck anyone would want a manual car these days is beyond me.

If yer a "driving god" mixing it up on tracks and midnight club road races fine. If it's for going the Tesco's then wtaf.

Automatics are fantastic, manuals are shit.

Automatic transmissions today can outperform all but a pro-rally driver. However, when it comes to maintenance and repair rebuilding any sort of auto transmission is a still a complete mare. Manuals are a simpler proposition if the user isn't a complete moron... but we're all bikers so surely manual is no problem Thinking

First and only automatic I've driven was a VW golf mini van and it was an absolutely apalling driving experience. It conformed to every negative stereotype I've heard about automatics. I'd liken it to the experience of riding a twist and go scooter compared to a geared bike. Only worse because it isn't even CVT. Never in the gear I wanted and with a response time that would almost certainly have caused an accident if I'd had it for any longer.

Hmm? Not all, I’ve had a few motors in my life.
Both manual and auto.

I had a MG Metro that was a hoot to drive, (manual), it was like a little angry go-kart Smile
I’ve driven Ford Escort Mexico’s (manual) and that was a REAL driving experience
I had a Vauxhall Senator 3L straight 6 with all the bells and whistles that was a real luxury to drive (auto).
My auto 2.5 Vauxhall Calibre went like stink!

My point being there’s good & bad in both types.

I’d definitely definitely have my old Senator back any day Wub Wub .
Shame it was such a gas guzzler Neutral

I've discovered that even in 'eco' mode our diesel sandaro will over-ride said eco mode and can take off like a scalded cat if you put your toe down fully.

I haven't told Mrs Bastard than I have discovered this.

I have to say the 8 speed box in my Jaguar is a joy to drive as an auto. Then you get snow and put it in sport mode and use the paddles to change gear like I was doing today is very very childish and glorious fun.

Both manual and auto.

I thought manuals were better suited to smaller engines, where you need to rev the nuts off them, and anticipate more with gear selection (eg: approaching a hill), which's what can make auto boxes in 'ordinary' cars an awful experience.

Autos for more luxury/powerful cars although the fashion seems to be for more powerful manuals now.

Since my recent introduction to quick shifters, I'd like to say a mixture of both is best, at least on bikes anyway. Sometimes I
want to clutch and rev match myself and pulling away I'd always prefer a manual clutch. But banging up or down through the
gears while keeping the throttle pinned is awesome fun too. BUT on a VERY long drive, like across America which I did in 2012,
automatic is preferable, especially combined with cruise control. Long periods of start and stop driving, like when I drove
a bus are better suited to automatics. Doing the same type of stop start London driving in a manual truck with a heavy clutch
pedal gave me a left thigh that was visibly bigger than my right for a while.

I got to admit i prefer automatic cars thease days my last 3 motors have all been autos much less agro/work in traffic and on road can see much point on manules any more for the road

the only reson my audi A5 is a manule is the V6 TDI motors are unbustable in em

but the but most of the autos in em are dule clucth paddel crap that has a habit of breaking more than other cars and its costs a arm and a couple of legs too fix em

the tiptronic auto gear boxs in em are solid but are rear to find in the spec you want

so when a great deal come on a factory hi spec one that was manule i snaped it up

now the bikes are different for me need that clutch i got a quick shifter on it but i rearly use it on the road keep forgeting most of the time its there
