Hello everyone,
Not long ago the engine warning light came on. I found a mechanic who was able to diagnose it as a problem with the oxygen sensor tube but couldn't fix it. The Yamaha mechanic's manual says to not open the unit that contains the tube so it doesn't seem possible to fix without replacing the entire throttle body in the worst case. I'm guessing it's not economical to repair but I'd like to run it until its MOT expires in July if possible. As long as I let it warm up a bit, it can go up to 50mph which is mostly enough for me. It sputters at high revs which I can mostly avoid with some care. Do you think it's safe to use for a while longer? Hope it's not a dumb question.

Regards
C.

What?
The oxygen sensor is on the exhaust not the throttle body !
and can easily be unplugged, unscrewed and replaced.
Fowlers will happily take £189 off you for one, see link to the parts page below but I don't trust your mechanics analysis
so would get a second opinion before shelling out dosh
Throttle bodies usually have TPS IAT IAP sensors not O2.

What fault code did he get?
On a YBR125 the eml should flash a code just after switch on
but this has a rather basic system and no O2 sensor
the 250 may have a self diagnostic button for all I know

BTW
I see a lot of Yamaha O2 Lambda eliminator kits on Ebay but I've never used on so cant comment on their usefulness

Sorry I meant air intake sensor, I think it only comes with an expensive throttle body.

I expect most of us have seen umpteen ybr125s but very few if any ybr250's
so what's the fault code?

19 would be the common side stand switch problem on ybr125s so
would expect 13 or 14
