I'm not a great lover of electrification of vehicles but understand the reasoning why they are at the moment the defacto power plant of future cars and bikes.

There is the green thinking but also the bad side of the equation with where the electricity comes from and how the constituants of specifically the battery are mined. I'm not sure what I was expecting with the mining operations. Relativly small operations I think because I had heard that children were used in the mining process. Snippets like that.

Then this popped up on my feed.

The dirty road to clean energy: how China’s electric vehicle boom is ravaging the environment

https://restofworld.org/2022/indonesia-china-ev-nickel/?utm_source=pocket-newtab-global-en-GB

I know there are two sides to every story and if we are to save the planet, maybe we have to bite the bullet when getting the products needed for batteries but I never ever thought it would be like it's shown in theis article. Almost up there with logging in the Amazon.

It will all depend on the scale of availabilty and use of electric vehicles. If everyone who currently has a car gets one, it'll be pointless from a "saving the planet" point of view. But is that the intention? As with many things in politics these days, I don't think we're getting all of the discussion presented to us from governments and mainstream outlets.

I rather think they're looking at a future where most will work from home (producing what?) and travel will be otherwise much restricted.

It's not why I did a spate of touring a few years ago, but it does make me even more glad I did. Future generations are not going to be seeing the world methinks!

Just tacked on here, and yes, it's the Sun................

Electric car hell as owners call for new rules following ‘Charge Rage’ and Teslas queue for three hours

Just a one off due to the time of year or an infrastructure not up to the job even now with just a small number of electric cars around?

Same goes for oil and coal yet here we are, paying 10x for heating and electric while its fucking minus 10

Western Liberals don't give a shit where any of the goods they use come from, as long as the playground they live in is a Green and pleasant land

Planting tree's left, right and centre on agricultural land so they can import food from places that wont think 2 seconds about dumping chemicals down the local stream, if anyone was entirely serious about climate change, dealing with China would be banned, just like we are with Russia

That'll be because of opec cutting production as exactly the same time as the eu trying not to buy Russian gas and oil.
