I got a 125 to rattle round on for a bit before doing the DAS. As someone who was new to bikes it helped with general road awareness and confidence.

When I drive a car I don’t even think about what gear I should be in or when to change, holding it on a hill etc, it’s become second nature because I’ve been doing it for so long.

Buzzing about on a 125 helped in a similar way so when I did the DAS I could concentrate on what they were teaching me rather than having half my mind on was I in the right gear. I found it worked for me but appreciate everyone’s mileage Is different.

Yup, there's definite merit in it. Although I didn't go that route. I had ridden 125's in the past as a kid but it didn't all come flooding back to me when I got on a motorcycle again for the first time in a couple of decades.

My instructor said to me if you divide up where your attention is going to go in the first 2 days, it's going to be 80% controls and 20% roadcraft. By day 3 you're going to swap that around the other way. He was about right, I'd say.

That’s a pretty good way of putting it. As I’m the wrong side of 50 I thought it would take more than 3 days to learn new tricks than most, hence the 125.
