Monzo have contacted me and said I can create virtual cards to buy things on line, up to 5 at a time, that can be 'destroyed' at will if I want to.

It says they act as a debit card on my account until I don't want them to and then I can just close them down without it affecting my actual debit card. I hope I'm making myself clear here. Confused

To get them I have to have a Mono plus account at £5 a month.

Does anyone use them or another banks equivalent? They sound ideal for online purchasing.

I use both Monzo and Revolut, but I'm not a raging autist. Revolut aren't a UK bank, but EU customers now have a bank guarantee with them, sadly I don't think the UK is included.

The virtual cards on both platforms work wonders.

I use revolut worldwide though, Monzo I only use in UK for UK purchases. Revolut also handles my lightweight stocks, it's just a helpful place to have all my travelling money.

I don't pay for any additional services though.

..are these like a shell 'card' that funnels teh cash form your regular High St. bank account? Presumably they exist as an 'app' on your mobile phone? How doe the cheap foreign exchange work?

Cheers boffins.

I use Revolut when Im abroad for cheap/no transaction fees. Its basically a pre-paid cash card you load with credit from your account and spend using the Revolut app or physical card they send to you. I think you can link it directly to take money from your bank as needed but I prefer not to do that. I figure its safe enough as I dont keep cash in there long term, typically stick £50-100 on it when Im on holiday and add as needed, so if it does vanish overnight I wont lose anything, and if they skim my card in some dodgy eastern European shithole on a budget ski trip theres no cash in there for them to steal.

I presume he's talking about the virtual cards I was asking about. You can create and delete them without worrying about ordering new phiscal cards. The generate new numbers each time so they can't be used again by the person you have paid. Or at least that's what I think happens.

I can delete and create a new virtual card every time. I don't because I only use it in America where it's all swipe and go, or Japan where everything is cash so ATM use only.
