Today I am mostly not best pleased about the state of NZ.

I once nearly bought a house out in Piha/Muriwai, its an area much beloved to me: I used to go there as a kid - my grandparents' house was 10 miles down the road from those beaches.

Here I was worried about the whole country being earthquaked, volcanoed or tsunami'd out of existence, and it turns out all it takes is a few weeks of heavy rain followed by a big storm Crying or Very sad

Thank goodness they can't blame Jacinda for this mess Laughing

Just delete anything over a certain age. If it was important they'd have email back by now.

F*gking small dogs! Evil or Very Mad
I seem to be cursed by the presence of small BARKING dogs at the moment.
Apart from next door’s stupid little mut that barks every time it’s out in the garden or the entire time it’s in it’s house.
There are others Mad , I went fishing yesterday and a twat of a boat owner left thier nasty little yapping piece of sh*tt locked on the boat all day, it never stopped the whole time I was there.
I walked to the local shops on Monday and outside the shop was two stupid little cretins tied to the railing, yapping thier lungs out and snapping at anyone who went near, which was a problem as they were close to the shop door.

First World problems ehh?

Some people would have gone fishing elsewhere. I can only conclude you WANTED to sit there listening to a small yappy dog.

Poor dog. It clearly had something to complain about, being left alone that long.

Hmm? Yer? .... I could have fished somewhere else, But why should I have to move because of someone else being selfish and unthinking?

Indeed, I've seen the imagery of Hawkes Bay and have fond memories of that area. For a country and that leans heavily on tourism, it's not good for such widespread damage to happen. Sad

wankers with out of control dogs.

wench came back from walking the pup today a bit concerned.
a couple of different dog walkers had warned her that there was a group out on the plain with 2 Dobermanns and a Ridgeback that were attacking other dogs. and the group were being very abusive when confronted. Evil or Very Mad

luckily she managed to avoid them.

I got new glasses, ...

paid the same money I have for the previous glasses maybe 5-8 years ago, not quite sure when it was. I mean, the inflation was/is bad but I thought the technology just got cheaper. After just a few minutes of testing the new glasses I can now see that it's not that the glasses industry got more advanced/affordable for ordinary people. I did just get a completely different kind of lenses (material). Rolling Eyes

Chromatic aberration, vertical distortion... Mad

I'll tell you what, if my digital camera lenses had such optical defects, I'd just give up digital photography all together or at least I would went purely monochrome. Middle Finger

Have you considered that your brain has compensated for all that shit for the last 8 years and suddenly you are seeing the world as it should be?

My favourite Draper tyre pressure gauge (analog, long line, pressure hold/release) was indicating less than the mixed bag of alternatives in my tool box so I thought I’d just determine an average across all devices and adjust the Draper. Upon opening the dial there was only a coil spring behind the needle and a brass bracket which looked to have been bent with pliers to achieve ‘calibration’. Unlikely to reproduce that I’ve bought a similar looking device but with a digital display from Amazon. Shame, the Draper looked like quality.

Doesn't mean it was inaccurate. As long as it's a decent quality spring and the reading range is all within its linear elastic range, it'll give consistant results. How did you think it was going to work? Do you think the digital one will be doing something significantly different? It'll just have a pot attached to the end of the blowing against a spring bit instead of a needle.

As far as I know, there are two main types. Blow something against a spring and read where it stops or just blow something out along a tube and read where it stops.

The most accurate way to measure the pressure would be with a manometer (blow something along a tube) but 40psi is about 28 metres of water so you'd need a very long tube.

I figured the spring had lost tension due to fatigue and was thus inaccurate (although would that make it read too high?) and a new device would be more likely to be within calibration. Not sure whether a digital device ultimately relies on the same mechanism.

Edit: Actually it might have been over-reading, I can’t remember. The point is the calibration won’t last forever but I was prepared to adjust it based on comparison with a set of similar devices, but there was no simple, reliable adjuster like a screw thread. Into the metal recycling it goes.

I've lost a few decent tools, which I use almost all the time and so are always in my trouser pocket. Among them: adjustable spanner which opens up to 13mm (OK I can replace that easily), 6mm tempered German hex key, Nagao Higonokami (sharper than a Stanley knife and just really nice). Shit.
