I am having a issue working out the heat lost of a building assembly does anyone know of a way to calculate the following? does not seem to be much info on-line to work out for a entire year.

A 258.55m2 area with RSI of 1.40 has a heat loss of 69356.74MJ over a year.

What would the same areas heat loss be if the RSI is 2.84?

Surface area in metres squared * (temperature differential / RSI) = energy loss in Watts

69356.74MJ per year = 2197.83W (1MJ per year = 0.031688764615413W)

258.55 * ( t / 1.40) = 2197.83
so your temperature differential = 12 degrees Celsius? Sounds about right...

258.55 * ( 12 / 2.84 ) = 1092.46W

1092.46W = 34474.68MJ per year

Surely the heat loss of any building is 100% of the heat you put into it?

Over time yes but we're after the rate of heat loss (Watts being an energy per second unit) to give an indication at how well the insulating materials are performing.
