Historically I'd point to the madness of forcing celibacy on priests as probably the main driver but since most churches have turned their back on morality not a problem any more.

That's a pretty spurious justification, if you're sexually frustrated you don't tend to target young boys as the majority of them did. I was also thinking of child marriages in the bible belt, often as a result of older men having sexual relations with young/teenage girls.

Not expected to marry [a woman] with access to choir boys... the job's going to attract a certain sort of person Wink

Anyhoo, my point is: saying there's objective morality tends be an article of faith whereas arguing morality is subjective takes you down the slippery slope to everything is permitted, nothing is forbidden, love is love, etc. It's the central pickle the likes of Sam Harris and Richard Dawkins get mired in.

I'd suggest it's the latter that attracted them, like with the scouts etc..

Well we've been discussing supposedly moral people abusing children, which was then covered up by a supposedly moral institution Thinking

That's my experience of religious people in general (Christian and Muslim), they break their 'morality' whenever it suits them.

And if that's not wacky enough, how's the fact that they've once again used the wrong terminology.

Can't say woman anymore, it's egg-producing now:

https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2023/02/14/words-male-female-should-banned-science-enforce-idea-sex-binary/

Quote:
The words “male” and “female” should be phased out in science because they reinforce ideas that sex is binary, scientists have suggested.

Researchers studying ecology and evolutionary biology should be encouraged to use terms such as “sperm-producing” or “egg producing” or “XY/XX individual” to avoid “emphasising hetero-normative views”, experts say.

And my particular favourite bit:

Quote:
Even one of the most famous scientific concepts of all time, the “survival of the fittest”, should no longer be used because it discriminates against people with disabilities and is linked to eugenics, they advise.

Hmmm… what kind of ‘scientists’ were they. They usually turn out to be ‘social scientists’ dabbling in stuff they don’t understand and freed by their own ethos to put a slant on it.

I was just thinking the end game of this woke nonsense must be upon us soon, it’s become too ridiculous. Or is that just this old man talking? I’ve started to wonder what ‘nonsense’ my parents observed while my generation accepted it. Aside from the music (Glam Rock, Punk) and ‘Alternative Comedy’ nothing springs to mind.

Ok I'm gonna be the dunce kid in class here, wouldn't an 'XY individual' be male and an 'XX individual' be female anyway? Eh? A trans woman would be an XY individual.

Sperm-producing or egg producing is discriminatory to those who are sterile Tut Tut

There are XY individuals who present as females in all intents and purposes (aside from being infertile) due to being unresponsive bioligically to testosterone from conception. Conversely there are XX people who produce excess testosterone and so present as particularly masculine so looking at XX/XY doesn't help.

Then there are those who have hermaphroditisom which don't really fit in either group (or fit in both groups, depending on your point of view.)

DSTL isn't military and the Army don't really have many ships.

Like AIS? Wouldn't that be a biological male with a developmental disorder. Eg:

Then there's the whole Castor Seyena thing that has dragged on for years:

Yep. Clearly XX/XY isn't really a good basis. one doesn't make it unfair apart from the individual. the other apparently is unfair for the entire gender despite being XX and therefore meeting the traditional definition of female.

I don't know what a good basis should be.

seeing as you have trouble understanding things Nobby-

The Ministry of Defence marked International Women and Girls in Science Day by showcasing the achievements of tranny Natalie Anders.

I believe AIS, Klinefelter syndrome, Turner syndrome still apply to a gender*, it's debatable what you want to say a biological male with a developmental disorder is... (genuinely) not trying to sound harsh there.

*eg: ALS discussed above, Turner syndrome is a female-only genetic disorder, Klinefelter syndrome is where boys and men are born with an extra X chromosome.

You said Army.

Army is military. DSTL is civilian. Big difference.

The Sun is hardly known for journalistic accuracy. Go ask anyone in Liverpool.

Problematic awards ceremonies again:
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-64707017

40% of the nominations but none of the winners. What causes it? Of course, of course....

Quote:
Marcus Ryder, director of consultancy at the Sir Lenny Henry Centre for Media Diversity, said Sunday's results were "quite depressing", and showed there had been "no substantial change" over the past decade.

"Ten years ago, in 2013, Lenny Henry made headlines at the TV Baftas when he labelled it as 'All white on the night'," he said.

"And depressingly, despite a massive overhaul, on which I and many other industry people were consulted and which resulted in 120 changes to the Bafta award processes, 1,000 new members from under-represented groups etc, the end result is there is no substantial change."

The focus should not be on ceremonies like the Baftas, he said, which are "just the tip of the iceberg" of a wider film industry that "suffers from systemic racism".

It's obvious that whether or not black people are worth the awards, there has to be a quota system to keep the woke brigade happy.

It was the same in the womens football team when they won the Euros. No black people, racist. Rolling Eyes

Not enough women, not enough women of colour, not enough trans-women of colour, not enough disabled trans-women of colour... merit never gets a look in.

Diversities didn't want to vote for other diversities? It's almost as if when you have token nominations they're just that.

Amazing, it's as if people's thoughts aren't dictated by their skin colour. They probably made the mistake of filling out the panel with black ppl and not Black ppl Wink
