I'm wanting to have a photo gallery on a website where I can upload the images for each album by FTP and then create the album using the admin page so each album has thumbnails which visitors can click on to load the full resolution image.

Coppermine Gallery roughly does all of that ( https://coppermine-gallery.net/demo/cpg15x/ ) but coppermine hasn't been updated since December 2018 so that doesn't strike me as a good option.

Any suggestions for what to use?

You can do it from Lightroom but it's a bit clunk.
Just upload the folders they create in web gallery

That's part of Adobe Creative Cloud which costs ten dollars a month?

I want to pay $0.00 per month for the photo gallery. Laughing

Do you have a website that you're already paying for?

Not yet as there's no point until I've figured out what to use as a photo gallery.

I'm intending on buying a shared hosting plan like the ones namecheap offer. https://www.namecheap.com/hosting/shared/

Are you planning on uploading all your stalking photos of my house?

This forum post suggests Coppermine was active last year so
while its doesn't appear to be a massively used system it it is at least 'alive' with some active developers.

https://forum.coppermine-gallery.net/index.php/topic,80594.0.html
and
https://coppermine-gallery.net/team/

Cant help much, I last did a similar job on a bike forum waaay back and had to create thumbnails by hand and do the page in html which was a chore.

Coppermine is free/gpl so would assume it isn't plagued by adverts
which some 'free' gallery software could well be nowadays.

you pays yer money ( or not) and all that

If you google "PHP Photo gallery" there are load of free ones that do exactly what you need.

Then just buy some cheap hosting with FTP access and you are sorted.

Might be worth checking the various web hosting companies and see if anyone provides a photo gallery plugin to their "build your own website in 3 easy steps" offerings.

Hey there! I understand your concern about its lack of updates since December 2018. It might be worth exploring other alternatives that are more actively maintained and offer similar functionality. One suggestion could be to take a look at some modern gallery plugins or scripts available for popular CMS platforms like WordPress or Joomla.

I'm sorry Dave, I'm afraid I can't do that
