If you are looking at the KTM then I'd look at the Kawasaki Ninja 400 as well.

I'm biased as I've had one since they came out but they are have good handling, are light and will do overtaking speeds on the motorway and sit at the speed limit without thrashing their nuts off.

They seem to be retaining their value quite well but there are a lot of low mileage second hand ones about from people moving up to a "big bike".

They stopped selling them for a year or so in the UK as they didnt meed the new EU emmission laws but they remapped the ei or something to make them compliant and they are available new again.

Just get an NC750. It'll be more than suited for the task and deliver excellent mpg. It'll be a rocketship in comparison to the 350.
