Interesting, I thought being an MP was, or should be, a full-time job. The point about joining the Cabinet is a good one though. Who attends to Constituency matters when being a Minister is full-time?

An MP's office assistants. All payed for by you. Its a bit like you taking some extra shifts at Lidl stacking shelves but doing it in your current employers time and then having the tax payer fund someone else to fill in for you at your main job. Sweet.

Personally I would ban all second jobs for MPs and have severe restrictions on any jobs MPs who have held ministerial positions. No exceptions, hardcore, you know like the rest of us are treated.

Maybe we should move to an executive model. I think people would baulk at going as far as the American Presidential style but once we have a PM they should nominate a deputy MP to look after their constituency. Cabinet ministers could be anyone the PM wants to hire for the role be it MP, Lord or non-government with MPs similarly nominating deputies. tl;dr a hybrid system.

We can argue the toss over ordinary members of Parliament but ministers 100% shouldn't have outside interests.
