Tell me about it. Fucking nature!

I decided to "grow my own ferns" from some spores that I scraped off the back of sommat that I liked when traipsing round some stately home.

Turns out you need to let them have sex with themselves first before they will grow, stupid fucking ferny bastards. Rolling Eyes

I'm floundering around in a world of mud, spores, gametophytes and some other damn thing, spongiform sporiform troglodytes* IDK its all Greek to me.

So frustrating when you organise the fuck out of an event and the venue people threaten to cancel the whole thing because the payment still hasn't reached them.

I organised it days ago, FFS. Brick Wall

I wasted a whole morning's worth of taxpayers' money having to check, chase, wait, and pester - only to be told that it had been done, and that it would be there the day before the event.

No! I wanted it paid on FRIDAY! I even checked with the office manager on Friday.

Gave myself and everyone concerned a wide margin of time.

It's the first rule of events organising: No matter how organised you think you are, you will run around like a headless chicken for no apparent reason even if you have everything in place.

I'm still waiting on the girl from pathology to tell me whether she's coming or not. Rolling Eyes

Aaargh! My mum is doing my swede in Sad Even simple questions I have to use the therapy technique of slightly rephrasing the question. On the third or forth attempt it's "oh, so you want me to move the chest of drawers *here*" ffs Rolling Eyes

Example: the patio doors are the typical "Euro Lock" sort. Apparently they're tricky to work out. "Okay, so if pushing the door handle down opens it what do you think pushing the door handle will up do?" cue blank look. (Don't even get me started on how many ways you can rotate a key in the lock.)

A sandwich short of a picnic? She hasn't even got the wicker basket and the gingham blanket.

With all due respect, it's like you're a fucking mind reader. She's been banging on about the cutlery left in the drawer since the move.

As my late friend used to say, it's bloody hard bringing up a parent.

His dad's main annoying habit was using the word 'thing' or 'wossname' for multiple objects or people and getting annoyed if you didn't know what he was talking about, like you were just being deliberately dense.

i.e. "By the way, I got that thing for wossname, I got the yellow one in the end, do you think that will be alright?"

My dad used to do the same but pointedly for comedic value Smile

For my mum it boils down to not making decisions but at the same time kicking off if people make decisions on her behalf. She also has little sense of propriety when it comes to conversation. I haven't got the skills (yet) to assess whether she's doing this wilfully to get attention or it's just tied in with her anxiety.

She's had pills in the past and she was night and day a different person. She knows she was a different person and felt better mentally but "...I didn't like the side effects" not that she'll reveal what the side effects were. There's also the classic "old people don't like to create fuss" and the "victim mentality" so in vogue at the moment. A lot to sift through to get to the bottom of things hence my interest taking up formal studies and given the state of the NHS there's slim chance of her getting treatment (even if she could be persuaded to seek any.)

FFS, it's a grim state of affairs when you start looking into neuro-linguistic programming and hypnagogic suggestion just to deal with an effing parent.

When my own Mum was going through her cancer testing, chemotherapy etc, I seemed to spend all my time saying, 'Inside head voice please Mum!'

She had a terrible habit of criticising hospital staff around her, usually going on about fat ankles, mad hair styles, laziness, not doing things properly, all at the top of her voice. I tried to explain to her that saying stuff like that about people she needed to deal with was like having a go at a waiter before he handles your food, bound to end in a bad way. I wouldn't mind but she was a retired nurse so should have known better.

In an effort to NOT appear too Karen-ish, I walked away from a plate of carrot cake at a pleasant cafe. Ruined my carefully curated Saturday morning vibe.

"Mrs Angry of E16" needs to F.R.O. out of my life fairly soon or I will end up inside for homicide ... or something.

Got a letter today from what seemed like a legal firm "Have you claimed your marriage tax allowance? We can claim on your behalf on a no win no fee basis!" Oh really Rolling Eyes

I'm already claiming this (basically adding some of my wife's tax allowance to my own as she's not in full time employment) and got my rebate. IIRC I just went on a government website, filled in a trivial form and got my cheque (and an adjusted tax code.) I can't see how some faux legal firm could make the process easier or wangle a greater rebate so I'll throw this in the same box as those "registration services" that aim to hijack tax disk renewals by taking out dodgy Google ads. Unusually that such an offer of service came through the post Thinking

Is it fraud to offer a service that one can easily do oneself for zero cost or is it just caveat emptor?

One of my daughters is always glued to her phone. Personally even with an S23 ultra I just find mobile screens too restrictive.

Then there's news sites that hijack the back button "before you go check out these articles!" F.R.O. Evil or Very Mad

Granny beat me to the bargains today and it was my own fault. Went to the co-op as normal then as I was about to
exit the car realised I had left my wallet at home so had to go back and get it. By the time I returned the old bag was
shoulder deep into the reduced stuff and got the lot. Oh well, you win some you lose some. Laughing

Well, 3 days ago, I had to put my car in for servicing. Drive shaft bearing was loud and I also told them to replace the flex discs + bolts, reseal the differential and replace all the differential rubber mounts... the kind of stuff I can not do myself, as I do not have a ramp/car lift.

Well, today I got the car back, paid a lot of money, and I am not quite happy with the results. Sure, they did reseal the differential, although they used silicone, and I am quite sure there's supposed to be a gasket. Sure, the drive shaft bearing is quiet... but they did something that I can not understand a bit and I never will! Well, they didn't something...

...they put the differential back on the 25 years old cracked mounts, using the 25 years old bolts. They also put the drive shaft back on the 25 fecking years old cracked all over flex discs using the same 25 feck fecking years old bolts... telling me that the differential and the bearing were all that was due to be replaced, that the rest of the bits I specificaly told them to replace were in mint condition (1998 rubber bits in mint condition?!). I mean, what kind of a cxnt mechanic can't tell a bad rubber mount and flex disc, when even without a pry bar you can clearly see cracks all over them and the differential is not as secure as it should be.

He probably had the differential and the drive shaft out on his work bench, he probably had the car lifted on a car lift... those rubber bits cost nothing, and yet he was a cxnt enough to put it all back the way it came off. Middle Finger

If you're gonna do the work you may as well replace the "consumable" bits while you're there Rolling Eyes (I think 25+ years for rubber classifies it as consumed.)
