New blood test could be used to prosecute drivers who cause accidents due to a lack of sleep

OK, it's all 'could' and 'in the future' but you can bet a pound to a pinch of sh1t if it's possible to implement it will be.

There aren't any specifics in the article except for biomarkers in blood that can detect whether somebody has been awake for 24 hours or longer which seems a bit pointless as if you are 24+ hours without sleep it's going to be pretty obvious. I've done it many times at sea on stand by for sailings like the Suez canal transit and I know full well I wasn't functioning well.

Anyway, years in the future but what else will they be able to test for soon? Just don't have your girl friend do a reach round while you are riding. Shocked Big brother has the tools............... Laughing

I'd imagine the so-called "4D" scanners ostensibly in place to detect mobile phone use could be repurposed for such a task... if the equipment in question was at least as big as a mobile phone Laughing

There's actually visual systems already being rolled out in the UK to detect mobile phone use. Luckily they are boxy and you should be able to notice them if you are vigilant:

Looks like it's coming, one way or the other. But probably not very soon, since Tesla claims to be working on it (among other things such as full self-driving cars):
