Do you think they were (institutionally ) told to go out, stick rainbow symbols all over themselves and act like gormless twats or was it all self inflicted? ____________________ Triumph Trophy Launch Edition |

Both.
The scotch parliament has taken another step into loony land with this consultation which you can still have your say on that is aimed at shitting on the common man.
Somewhere in that guff there's the claim that sex didn't make it into one of their other censorship laws because it might have been of benefit to men.

I suppose that's why you'd have a lawyer along side you. It does no good to honestly answer "where were you on the 25th?" and come back with "sleeping with an intern in the Marriot Hotel" which is typical of politicians
Although in Wee Jimmy's case the police probably wouldn't take such an answer so seriously but hey...

Cool. Im trying to start a campaign for Aberdeen and Shire declaring independence as well, I even have a manifesto all ready to go.
Manifesto for the Independence of Aberdeen and Shire from Scotland and the United Kingdom and its establishment as a City-State.
We, the people of Aberdeen and Shire, declare our desire for independence from the United Kingdom of Great Britain. We believe that as a distinct region with our own unique identity, culture, and economy, we would be better served by governing ourselves and making decisions that reflect our values and priorities.
Our region is rich in natural resources, including oil and gas reserves, fertile farmland, and a beautiful coastline that attracts tourists from around the world. We have a thriving tech sector, a vibrant arts and culture scene, and a long history of innovation and entrepreneurship. We believe that as an independent city-state, we would be able to fully leverage these strengths to create a prosperous and sustainable future for our people.
We also believe that independence is necessary to address the challenges facing our region. The UK government has historically overlooked the needs of Scotland and its distinct regions, including Aberdeen and Shire. This has led to a lack of investment in infrastructure, education, and healthcare, leaving our communities struggling to keep up with the rest of the UK. As a city-state, we would have the power to make decisions that reflect our unique needs and priorities, and to invest in the infrastructure and services that will support our growth and development.
Finally, we believe that independence is a matter of principle. As a people, we have the right to self-determination and the freedom to govern ourselves. We believe that the UK's current political system does not represent our values or reflect our vision for the future. We believe that as an independent city-state, we can create a more just, equitable, and sustainable society, one that is built on the principles of democracy, equality, and human rights.
We recognize that the road to independence will not be easy. It will require hard work, collaboration, and sacrifice. We will need to establish a new government, currency, and international relations, and address concerns around trade, immigration, and security. But we believe that with determination and a clear vision, we can overcome these challenges and create a brighter future for ourselves and our children.
We therefore call on all the people of Aberdeen and Shire to unite behind this vision of independence, to work together to build a better future for ourselves and our region, and to declare our independence from the United Kingdom of Great Britain.
What do you think? |

Does that mean they are allowed to detain and deport Dundonians at the border and shoot Fifers on sight?
Sounds like a plan. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”

Yes it does.....
"On the street in Orkney people come up and say to me when are we going to pay back the dowry, when are we going back to Norway,
So there, everyone in Orkney wants to leave jockland and become Norwegian.

It doesn't.
Vox pop type quotes are generally unrepresentative and Orcadians are generally much much smarter than that.
Chucked in Scapa Flow? I doubt it. I've been contributing to public service and the economy here for 33 years lol. I like Norway and Norwegians. We do have close ties with Hordaland anyway. We could do a lot worse.
But seriously...
The discussions are on whether becoming a Crown protectorate or one of the other models would be advantageous and if they were to be generally accepted as a way forward it would be a long term plan anyway. To quote the article:
"Councillor James Stockan is calling for “alternative models of governance” to be explored, so as to bring about “greater fiscal security and economic opportunities” for Orkney.
His motion, due to be discussed at a general meeting of the council next Tuesday, asks for investigations to be carried out into options for “greater subsidiarity and autonomy.”
As an example of the options which could be explored, the notice of motion points to Nordic connections, like the Faroe Islands, which is a self-governing territory of Denmark; and British Crown dependencies like the Isle of Man or the Bailiwick of Guernsey."
This has a lot to do with the Islands being generally underfunded and under resourced for the amount we actually contribute. We've been arguing that we should receive the Road Equivalent Tariff for our ferry services - something that the Western Isles have enjoyed since 2008. Our oil reserve fund doesn't reflect the amount the islands have contributed to North Sea oil over the years. We've had to fight to get decent comms links (that particular one was suddenly improved after we bought into the Faroese fibre links and did a chunk of it ourselves.
Power cable capacity wasn't up to the job of exporting the renewable energy we generate here until fairly recently (we're among the world leaders for renewable research and development and the Council here has investments in that). There's so much more as well.
So yes, having a greater amount of autonomy would play well for us.
Mind you, this was raised in 2017 and rejected but then at that time we had European support and funding available... |
