Maybe smushed into the pier legs by a freak wave/swell/current?

Reasonable chance that it's going to turn out to be something incredibly dumb like the now dead kids didn't take into account the fact that they couldn't swim.

yeah it must be something like this, but i don't get why they've arrested a guy

the coppers are adamant that the two kids were not hit by a jet ski or something else in the water (at least, that's my interpretation - but iirc they don't explicitly say they weren't hit by a boat, just NOT a jet ski - so maybe the arrested guy clobbered them with his boat?? Also, what's with the lack of clarity here - keep the public guessing as to why we've arrested )

maybe the guy used psi-power to drown the kids

maybe the kids were in a speed boat sort of vessel and the guy was ahem show boating, tossed them out, they couldn't swim, and then good night vienna - hence man slaughter

Yeah, it's weird. They said the guy who's been arrested for manslaughter was "on the water" so presumably he was operating an unspecified watercraft of some kind, which managed to kill people and place several others in extreme difficulty?

EDIT: Maybe more of a 30ft tour boat than a jetski?

The police need to work on their PR. I understand they don't want people to speculate, post stuff online etc for fear of influencing whatever investigation/case comes out of this but holding a press conference to say "it wasn't X, Y or Z" but then give no other information is only going to make people more curious.

One online account I read said a jetski washed them off of something with its wake. Maybe they both bashed their heads/broke limbs as they fell in.

according to local gossip, the kids were hanging out on the concrete under the pier. which isnt allowed, plenty of warning signs.
the bloke who got arrested operates a boat that takes tourists out.
he created a large enough bow wave when passing them to wash the kids off the platform. resulting in various injuries and death. the young girl got taken in a rip tide.
