Hi all! I've been a member for years but gave up (I think) about 6 years ago and sold my RSVR. Truth is I'd ruined it for myself, I'd bought bikes I cared about and got worried about and stopped riding.

But I'm back! Almost by accident. A friend decided they were doing their test so I decided to get a bike and be a good friend! I had no idea what to get, I looked at a few old flames, especially the 636 but remembered they broke my back within 10 minutes when I was in my mid 20's. Eventually I settled on a Sv1000s and it's now in the garage.

Being old has its perks, fully comp insurance without any no claims and no security other than the garage was 150 bones.

Had more trouble getting all my new gear, I chucked or donated everything from optimate chargers to abba stands and race suits. Got ripped off by the local place and been messed around by a big online retailer this week already but on we go.

So yeah, first 'bimble' out on a bike in 6 years and I feel like a recovering addict lifted from a nunnery and dropped off at a pub with a loyalty card. Most alive I've felt for ages and it all cam flooding back!

Can't wait to get back on it again!

So yeah, hello and it's good to be back!

Cheers!

Well there's a name I remember! Highly unlikely to forget a polar bear riding a bike though! Hope all is well at your end! Thanks for remembering me, very kind of you!

I'd forgotten how obsessive this hobby is, all I can think about is getting out on the bike!

Hi Rob, thanks for that info I'll look into it. I seem to have gained a mechanic friend when I bought the bike so it might be a first job if I can't manage it!

Yeah.... Not entirely sure where my mind was going there, although it could have been someone who really like nuns Laughing

Welcome back.
Good luck.

And leave it this long next time and the mods will want a word with you.

(The Ban Hammer is always available.)

Laughing

I just spent 6 big ones on a new lid to replace the auld one.

Donated another old one to a local fire station for their Biker Down training.
They were pleased to receive it.

Bike gear was simple a few years ago when Heineken Gerika was a thing. Their gear wasn't cheap but normally the quality was reasonable.
I looked at RST stuff and it doesn't come close to the quality that HG was.

The Scandinavian stuff Rukka is expensive AF quality is there though.

Dianese, (I'm going to smash my fking phone) The Italian stuff. Latest fashions and styles but again, £££

i bought a Shoei GT Air 2 in plain plod white a few months ago. Quick release, no stupid flip front shit, but it does have a drop down sun visor (which I never used on previous lids and won't on this, and which i would way prefer not to have as it's more f***ing bullsh*t to go wrong, like the one on me acerbis which falls down all the time).

400 large. Mad

I've got by on £50 Box BX-1s for donkeys - the medium in those fit me so brilliantly. The construction of them is adequate, ditto materials. I would've paid thrice the price tbh - just cos of the amazing fit, the 4 star SHARP test (not the best test, maybe, but better than nowt), and the utter simplicity of design. Also, I love quick release.

Really didn't wanoo stump up for the bloody Showy - but it was best fit of many I tried, and ticked other boxes. Iirc i was large in Shoei (maybe even XL!! - and medium in Box!!).

Thing is, 5 months later, it's worn in and borderline pissing me off with its amount of worn inness. Can get different sized cheek inserts - three thicknesses - so I might go up to the thickest. £59 tho.

I'd have to agree with Nobby as I have my "summer" retro helmet and my old "winter" helmet. The latter is much more aerodynamic and noticeable better >50mph.
