Gave his wallet and watch to his work mate and walked into the death zone.

Shocked

There's a White Spiral painted on the hub of jet engines.

If you cannot see the spiral that means the engine is still at a hungry speed.
When you can see the spiral it has slowed to a speed that allows personal to get close.

If the engine is at idle that spiral is not visible. If the engine is making enough thrust to move the aircraft on taxi a person could very probably be sooked into the engine if they got too close.

There was a video of a US crewman on an aircraft carrier being ingested into a jet fighter intake doing the rounds a few years ago. The main things I remember about it is the terrifying speed at which it happened and the way the crewman was picked up and sucked around and into the intake being bent almost like a banana in the process. He survived largely because his helmet took the brunt of the force and the engine stalled quickly due to broken fan blades being drawn into the compressor.

The crewman in that video survived with only minor injuries.

That is, could be, even worse. I mean, being dead isn't the issue. Dying and/or surviving severe injures with permanent disability is the awful part. Thinking

I've tried but as I get older I'm not as nimble. Can't face having a couple of ribs removed.

Most fighters have ducted fans, that crewman who was sooked into the fighter was saved by the ducting.

Relatively un scathed but in the photos it looked like he had been sooked into a jet engine. Laughing

Airliners with engines near the ground are not so forgiving.

A woman ramp worker was sacked into an engine a couple of months ago.

Much complacency involved or someone untrained, who shouldn't have been on the ramp.

I often wonder what the rate of people punching their ticket would be if everyone had access to a way you KNEW it would work rather than just vegetable you for the rest of your time on this rock.
