Otway is always value for money. Don't they keep him in a locked box between gigs in the interests of public safety?

The Military Type turned up for a couple of days whilst back in the UK sorting out some personal business.
I had not realised just how much I missed his daft self.

Parts of me (not necessarily *those* parts!) kind-of wish that things had worked out differently with him.
He's very big and reassuring.

But it was also gear-oiling to see the back of him, as he chain-smokes and despite having scented candles going almost the whole time he was here, my gaff smells like an ashtray today.

I think it will certainly be nice to visit him at some point. Never been to Turkey, might quite enjoy that

Wub Cool

Today I had a smoke detector fitted for free by the local fire service Very Happy. Alarmingly, it was installed in a 'dead air' space Sad .

You don't wake up with a full erection every morning?! One for the mens' health thread methinks.

An erection in the morning? The only way I get one of those is if wifey chuckes a little blue pill in my tea. How the hell men father babies gone 80 I am in awe. Laughing

I do on occasion wake up with a lazy lob if I'm desperate for a wee. The days of morning glory are long gone however... Sad

I have to admit, I am very happy to have a whole king size bed to stretch out all by myself except for Dennis who bites my feet if I kick her, but I do miss reaching over and seeing if there is anything for me to play with of a morning.

No doubt you will find it difficult to believe but I did not lay a finger on the wrong sections of the Military Type whilst he was here (tempted though I was) I stayed strictly above the waist at all times.

Not sure why.

Was he showing any, erm, ardour?

Not sure why I need to know this.. probably just so I can slip in the 'ardour' gag.

A little.
But then he always has.
But he was too crazy when I first met him for me to consider it (military PTSD)
Now he has settled down somewhat, and is *slightly* less insane than he was.

Enough to make me think ...
And am doing FAR TOO MUCH overthinking.

I keep listing the pros and cons.
Plus too many "what if"

No point getting myself all bent out of shape if neither of us wants to live where the other is.

In other news (to brighten my day somewhat) I had a text from our lovely BCF resident aussie Spudly and am waiting for him to let me know he is back in his hotel-for-work which is apparently just down the road from my house. Thumbs Up

Few drinks, bit of a laugh, nice distraction from overthinking for a while. Cool Thumbs Up

Today, I cycled to work at almost my usual pace and nothing hurt. A month ago I experienced an unpleasant stabbing pain in my left tight, so I gave up on cycling for a bit, just to make sure. I also set my seat a bit lower, as they say it prevents injures associated with muscle overextension. The downside being reduced power transfer to the pedals, but I don't mind. I'd rather be cycling a bit slower than not cycling at all. Thumbs Up

Shell Shock was what troops exposed to WWI mechanised warfare suffered from on return from front lines.

PTSD has been connected to Shell Shock.

I think each major conflict coined its own term for psychological injury due to experiencing war.

I'm not a doctor but I think there are personality types who enjoy being in armed forces. Police, Prison service, security etc.
Are those types more prone to PTSD?

Did/do they suffer from PTSD before joining up?

There are folk who see armed forces/police etc as a way to serve society too. Not just a route to shooting people with impunity. Normal sociopath and psychos have the bother that authorities bring upon them when caught.

Yes the "service" element was/is strong in this one.

But anyway ... its unlikely any servicing is going to happen with me, as London and Turkey are too far apart - so as I'm not feeling especially apex-predator at the moment, I shall just plod forward on an undetermined path until some other BFG stumbles unwittingly into planet hellkat and finds the courage to chat me up/ falls under my spell.

Mental resilience is very hard to quantify but AFAIK the only very tenuous link is to intelligence. Let's just say if you're lacking the capacity to be self-critical you're less likely to dwell on violent events you've experienced.
