Andrew Ridgeley wants to bring George Michael back for a Wham! hologram show: "I'd pay to see it"
This is not without precedent: Tupac, Abba, Peter Cushing & Carrie Fisher in Star Wars...
If someone said "I'm going round to Nanna's for a cup of tea, wanna join me?" You get there and notice a photo of a dog on the mantlepiece and the old bird tells you what a lovely dog Fido was. You enjoy a nice cup of tea and are regaled with tales of how much better things were in the old days  Now imagine instead if you get there and Fido's standing by the fireplace, inert. "Oh! Such a lovely dog." as she pats him on the head  How enjoyable is that cup of tea now?
Holograms and entertainers, digital taxidermy for the 21st Century?

As the sun began to dip below the horizon, casting a warm glow across the quaint little town, Emma received an unexpected invitation from her dear friend Lucy. "I'm going round to Nanna's for a cup of tea, wanna join me?" Lucy asked with a twinkle in her eye. Intrigued and eager for some company, Emma readily agreed.
Nanna's cottage was a charming abode, filled with the comforting scent of baked goods and the homely warmth of an open fireplace. As Emma entered, her eyes were drawn to a photograph of a golden retriever on the mantelpiece. The dog looked wise and kind, and Emma couldn't help but ask, "Who's this handsome fellow?"
Lucy's grandmother, a sprightly old woman with twinkling eyes, smiled warmly. "That's Fido," she said, her voice tinged with nostalgia. "He was my loyal companion for years. We shared so many wonderful memories together."
The two friends settled into the cozy sitting room, and Nanna bustled about, preparing a pot of tea and an assortment of biscuits. Emma couldn't help but feel the embrace of tradition and a simpler time as she gazed around the room.
As they sipped their tea, Nanna regaled them with tales of her youth, when life seemed slower and sweeter. She spoke of picnics by the river, hand-knitted sweaters that kept her warm on chilly nights, and the joy of spending time with loved ones without the constant distraction of technology. Emma found herself getting lost in the stories, transported to a time she had never experienced but could now appreciate through Nanna's vivid recollections.
The conversation flowed like a gentle stream, and the cup of tea was a soothing elixir that connected generations. Nanna's tales painted a picture of a world that seemed distant yet familiar, filled with moments of laughter, love, and shared experiences.
However, as Emma glanced toward the fireplace, she froze. There, standing by the hearth, was Fido. He looked as real as any living dog, yet there was something off. He was perfectly still, as if frozen in time. Nanna noticed Emma's surprise and chuckled softly. "Oh! Such a lovely dog," she said affectionately, patting Fido's head as if he were alive.
Emma's heart raced, a mix of awe and unease washing over her. She had heard of holograms before, but this was her first encounter with one that felt so uncannily real. As Nanna continued to speak about Fido's escapades, Emma couldn't shake the feeling that she was witnessing something beyond the ordinary.
The tea, once a comforting ritual, now seemed imbued with a touch of the surreal. Emma found herself torn between fascination and a vague sense of discomfort. Fido's hologram remained a silent presence, a testament to the technology that had seeped into even the most traditional corners of life.
As the evening drew to a close, Emma bid farewell to Nanna and Lucy. She walked away from the cottage, her mind abuzz with thoughts about the juxtaposition of the past and the present. Were holograms and digital entertainers the modern-day equivalent of taxidermy, preserving the essence of what was once alive in a new, technological form? The question lingered in her mind as she strolled through the town, the memory of Nanna's tales and the enigmatic Fido hologram dancing in her thoughts. |

Think forward a few decades. A reasonable simulation of your entire personality synthesised by AI (based off your phone, social media, CCTV, Netflix preferences, etc.) At the very least a hologram of you could be made (Rimmer, Red Dwarf) maybe even an android (Black Mirror, Season 2, Episode 1: Be Right Back)
