Aye, parasitic drain is a thing with a lot of torches.
I would have suggested my ultrafire UF-H2 torch which is a similar shape to that green one but about 2" long and also fits on a haedband. Runs on a single AA or one of those AA size 5v cells. It's just an on/off switch with a dimming function by holding down the button to cycle dim/bright/dim and stays where you release it. It's stupidly bright on full power and lasts about an hour or is plenty bright enough on lowest and lasts 12+ hours with a nice, wide, circular beam pattern ideal for walking about with.
The downside (which is also an upside really) is the dimming function is latching so if you've dimmed it, it turns on at that setting next time. It must however have some parasitic draw so if you leave it unused for a couple of weeks, the battery has run down. You can deal with this by unscrewing the back plate a 1/4 turn to disconnect the battery but then it resets to full power next time it's used.

I can see the parasitic draw being more of an issue in small capacity battery torches.
Similar to a phone, click through menu types have a processor which
wont truly turn off but will go into a sleep mode where the processor uses a small amount of current probably a few micro amps to watch a signal level then 'wake up' at the press of a button.
Jolly clever stuff especially if you want add gimmicks
but a bit too clever and for me, can be damned irritating.
A true on/off power switch and secondary setting for say intensity would be more efficient
and get the best benefit from the li-ion battery's low self discharge
which is what started all this shit off ____________________ bikers smell of wee |
