Dodging death and immigration officers: 12 hours as a London fast-food rider – and all for £40

tl;dr these poor people! remember to tip your deliveroo guy Crying or Very sad

A couple of interesting things:

Quote:
Deliveroo was among the first platforms to offer riders free insurance

IMO carefully written so you make the mistake of thinking these guys are provided on-the-road insurance, they are not. Riders are still expected to provide their own third-party cover including "Hire & Reward." H&R bumps up insurance considerably and from the article we know these guys are on below minimum wage. You work it out Wink

Another nugget:

Quote:
[Some interviewed Deliveroo guys] juggle different platforms – or “multi-app” – renting accounts, typically for about £50 a week, from holders who have the correct documentation to register for an account (typically a passport and right-to-work paperwork). Riders are allowed to let other riders use their accounts, provided they too have been checked and approved by Deliveroo.

Oh really? As these guys are all self-employed of course you can substitute someone else to do your work Rolling Eyes How diligent are these checks?

An entire industry based on fucking over both the tax and immigration systems Sad

Dont use it. Wouldn't use it. It's one of those industries that makes me feel a bit dirty to use, a bit like those hand car washes. Obviously the authorities don't give a sh1t.

I was at my eldest daughters and her husband had ordered food for the family via deliveroo or lets eat or whoever and it was delivered in a car. How can someone make any money using a car I have no idea. I presume it must just be a top up job for the evenings.

Having written software for both Deliveroo and UberEats I take more of an interest in their affairs.

I agree though, I cringe when others employ their services Sad
