The sycamore tree in my parents garden that was over 300 years old died two years ago and had to be cut down, very sad as my mother had climbed in that tree when she was a child and it was in a woods. Dad bought the land a built a house there with the tree in the garden, good job my Mum had popped it a year earlier so she never saw it getting felled.

Is it wrong that i actually find this story more difficult to comprehend than the recent stabbing/murdering of a teen yoof in Londinium

What the fuck makes a 16 year old think, "tonight i'm going to fell one of the most famous trees in the land"

God forbid if this was something like the Major Oak in Sherwood Forest, but i suspect the yoof offender will get a trip to Disneyland as punishment, as clearly it will be down to some mental health condition he/she has

On the plus side, it's good to see kids with a bit of get up and go about them. It was no mean feat which would have taken a fair bit of planning and execution..

I wonder if it was a bet. Like when Bart Simpson cuts the head of the statue of Jebediah Springfield off.

The picture shows a very clean, level cut which implies a big saw and quite a skilled operator I'd say.

16 and cleanly chopping down trees. I'm trying to think what I was doing at that age Thinking The cleanest thing I could manage would be to clear a pool table!
