I might have to change my mobile number Brick Wall

I've had a series of annoying calls lately and I've just about had enough. Including:

* One of the Italian shrink's patients who I was once stupid enough to call from my private number without blocking the number out - a barrister of all things, FFS you'd think as a busy professional they would have some sense of decency, I've told him often enough that its my private phone. But I suppose ... lawyers, what can you expect ... Rolling Eyes

* I had another call on my WhatsApp from someone who turned out to be the mother of another patient who had been given my number by her friend, the mother of a third patient (feck knows how she got it) and wanting to know if she could have an assessment for herself because her son was diagnosed. For fucks sake.

* Someone alleging to be from a company where I was recently ripped off in one of those cyber-currency things that scam silly old boomers with more money than sense, who believe things that say "Martin Lewis says this is OK". (I know, I know Rolling Eyes ) My plan when it all happened back then, was to s t a y c a l m and be polite-but-beastly to any of them (should they have the temerity to call me again) whilst telling them to go fuck themselves, but I lost the plot quite quickly and screamed down the phone at the guy. He tried to make out he was all butt-hurt because I was talking over him, shouting him down and calling him a liar and a rip-off artist, and eventually he hung up on me. I've put him in my phone as "RIP OFF CNUT" just so I know in case he/they try to call again...but of course I am aware that they use a variety of methods and numbers to call so its a bit pointless, I could have a whole bank of numbers entitled RIP OFF CNUT-1,2,3 etc and they would still try their luck.

I really don't want to change my number cos I've had it for about 20 fuckin years, but I'm even back to getting several nuisance calls a week of the "alleging to be from my phone provider" variety.

I could just start using it as the phone number for the shrink's clinic appointments line - but we purposely decided not to have one as I have a full time job elsewhere and am *only* a virtual PA for him, so we do everything by email, but of course patients today, and particularly ADHD ones, want things sorted NOW and email isn't quick enough for them Rolling Eyes

I might just get myself a new number and not give it to anybody except my daughter.

I suspect I am going to have to up my Privacy game *sigh*
I really didn't want to. Shouldn't have to. What is wrong with people? Brick Wall

Maybe you could get a dual SIM phone and whitelist the numbers in your contacts for your personal number so it rejects any calls from other numbers. Then have another burner SIM which is just for business use and giving out to random internet shite which demands a mobile number. If the incoming call density on it reaches the point of being a pain in the arse, swap that number out.

Thinking I need a new phone anyway, so yeah a dual SIM might be the way forward Thinking

What does whitelist mean? Do I just put only my "preferred" numbers" that I want to keep on that list and reject all the rest?

1. Daughter
2. RAC
3. Suzuki mechanic
4. Harley mechanic

Short list, then.
Everybody else can F.R.O. Laughing

Going to Knightsbridge from Wiltshire to get a prescription fulfilled really isn't realistic....

A blacklist rejects calls that are on the blacklist. A whitelist rejects calls that aren't on the whitelist.

Probably not called blacklist and whitelist now because woke. Thinking .

Downside is paying for two SIMs but maybe you could get work to pay for the work one?

I'd just wazz down the M5 but thats still a bit extreme. The delay wouldn't be such an issue now hes been accepted at a behavioural unit if Mrs Bastard wasn't in denial and keeps telling him ADHD doesn't exist.

It seems to run in families too, just didn't get widely recognised or diagnosed until recently.

ADHD doesn't exist, says the parent who can't watch TV without pacing back and forth in front of it.

I do the pacing, and so does NO.1 son but thats an aspergers thing, not an ADHD thing.

ADHD is not being able to focus on things where you aren't interested in it and poor impluse control.

The ADHD is Mrs Bastards side of the house, her father admitted he was in trouble at school literally every day from 7 till 16. I wasn't,grade A student until depression kicked in at 17.

I never really gave much thought to myself as having something like that, until I started noticing this.
I always think I am boring and stuck in a rut, but actually I am quite prone to impetuosity.

Do NOT tell me how to parent.

This isn't a food allergy. It doesn't come and go depending on what he's eaten. It's a constant problem.

Maybe he's constantly eating the wrong thing?

Keep your hair on, Nobster.

Have you tried breathing into a brown paper bag to calm down?

Apparently its very restful, and being non-single-use plastic, also extremely right-on. Thumbs Up

For an example of a constant thing there's a high aluminium content in the mains water west side of Cornwall. But hey, what do I know. If I have any more ideas I'll keep 'em to myself.
