the float is in the bottom of the carb, and its sounds like yours is sticking. undo the nut (which holds the main jet) at the bottom of the float bowl and the bowl should come off and you will see the white plastic float.

Just made myself some tea before bed and found my camera and a tzr carburettor in the kitchen.

Although the carb isn't an nsr's the layout should be very similar.
Hope it helps somewhat.

I may be inclined to drain all the old stuff and fill with fresh.
You could top it up by all means but if you do not know when it was last changed or what oil it has in there I would go the fresh oil route.

Here's the service manual for the NSR125 which will show you everything about the bike. Also, if you don't already own a impact driver to begin the untightening of screws and allan bolts then definitely buy one from Halfords for £16 it's must have tool for working on a bike along with a tub of copper grease for screw/bolt threads to prevent future rusting!

Also you will need a spray can of carb cleaner i.e. Motul and a spray can of compressed air called Aero Duster from Maplins to blast the jets and all other holes in/out of the carbs clean after spraying the carb cleaner and remember to press the little push button on the float valve to make sure it moves freely once again.

Also remove the float itself to test it in a glass of water to make sure it actually does float and if it doesn't then you'll need to repair it or better still replace it.

Hey Git!

That carb is crying out for carb cleaner to be used on it, as it looks like it has a layer of crap/rust on it because it should be gleaming ! Smile

Top eyes that man Smile

The carb has had a float bowl of water for a year or two and was a complete mess when I pulled it to bits, totally full to the top with a salad cream substance. The needles pitted, the needle valves dead, bit of a state really.

Just awaiting a few jets and things to come in from yamaha then the cleaning and putting back together begins.

Then onto tackle the ignition problem, old abused strokers, love it Laughing

Have you tried carb cleaner like Motul's because it's amazing how crap/rust just disappears in front of your eyes ! Surprised

I did a test on the outside of my carbs for a comparison between WD40 and actual carb cleaner. The WD40 did not dissipate the dried in oil but carb cleaner just simply washed it away instantly!

It's not an RD is it you've got ?
