I notice that there's been a few old posts on this forum about swing arm bushes needing replaced on YBR125s. Like those, I've had to replace mine because it failed the MOT.
So I have all the replacement parts and I'm following the Haynes manual on installing the swing arm again. The problem is that there's a step which instructs you to hold the bushes and spacer on the right-hand side, then measure the gap on the left of the swing arm between the bolt and bush. If this is larger that 0.9mm, then add shims to bring it down. I only bought 4 shims, but the gap is so large that even fitting all on the left still leaves too much of a gap. I reckon I'd need at least 6 to bring it under 0.9mm. And you're meant to have the same number on each side, so this would be 12 in total. Am I doing something wrong here or does this sound about right?

I fitted new bushes to the 'Scotland' YBR a few years ago and had trouble taking up the slack and tightening it up until I realised I had forgotten to fit the footpeg brackets on the pivot bolt, both of which act as spacers.
Doh!
You haven't added any pics so nobody knows what you've done or not done, so vague guesses is all you'll get.

This will sound a really daft mistake, but I've figured it out. First of all, according to the manual, you're meant to check this without the dust covers, any shims or the footrest brackets.
So when Haynes tell you move the swingarm to the right, you're meant to push the bolt as well Embarassed
I didn't get what they were after until I looked online at a service manual, which explained it differently. The point of doing this is to check that both spacers don't protrude more than .9mm combined. Haynes's way of doing this is to hold everything flush on the right, while pushing the arm to the right. You then see how much the gap is between the bush and the spacer on the left. Of course, you'll have to push the bolt flush with the spacer to get an accurate reading.
