There was a video floating about recently of a man being arrested, cuffed and dragged away by the police for "hate crimes." Given the source - Tommy Robinson - I didn't think it was credible but the Met Police have now acknowledged the video as genuine and they're quite proud of their work!

Original video post:

Met response:

https://twitter.com/metpoliceuk/status/1719738991413457355

"The inhabitants of a police state may experience restrictions on their mobility, or on their freedom to express or communicate political or other views, which are subject to police monitoring or enforcement."

Don't moan, it's todays society that's turning the country into a police state.

It's a very fine line between the hate crime powers just being used as they are meant and becoming the thought police.

Modern society has become that you can't even speak the truth if it is deemed defamitory to someone/group/race or whatever. If you do it's a hate crime. In other words, it's a bloody big catch all that can be manipulated in many various ways.

It'll get worse, soon I won't be able to insult other football fans in case they cry.

Do you have anything on this story that means I don't have to try to navigate a disorganised oppinion platform full of morons and more intrusive flashy stuff than a porn site?

There's no need to talk about BCF like that!

Unfortunately, that is the case. I hate the world that's why I spend most of my time ignoring what is going on.

TBF I didn't even want to link to 'X' (the artist formally known as Twitter) but it's the original source, as is the Met's response. Do they forget X is available internationally? There's Americans genuinely asking if it's a parody account Neutral

Well the thing you linked to had absolutely no substance beyond he was arrested for "posting his opinion on seeing Palestinian flags in Bethnal Green?".

So before jumping on a band wagon, I'd be interested to hear what that oppinion was.

If it was "I don't like the colour of those flags." then yes, police state. If it was "All followers of the glorious Hamas Jihad should rise up and exterminate the Jews.", then he probably has some 'splaining to do.

There are too many wagons with bands on them and too many willing to board those aforementioned wagons with no thought for where they are going to.

Irrelevant. From the Met Police's own statement they're picking up people for "hate crimes" without any laws or legal definitions to back it up. When it comes to the actual charge sheet it'll go down as "Section XYZ public order offence" but they're very explicit that it's the so-called hate crimes they're going after.

To be clear: I wouldn't be picking up anyone for waving a Palestinian flag as a hate crime either... they be tried for treason instead and executed Wink

doubt they can afford to police the law correctly anyway, and doubt they could keep a lid n things if anything did kick off.

only option is to try calm things down...doesnt matter who they arrest...the guy talking, or the guy crying...as long as they remove someone the situation calms down.

our diverse and multicultural land is all cool and everything, however it does mean there is no coherent opinion about anything anymore= everyone always upset and insulted etc. Nothing can make anybody happy.someone is always pissed.

All the cops are trying to do is remove any tinder from the matchbox..they dont care who started it. see also: people removed from speakers corner because the audience got upset..and tearing down hostage posters because of community tensions...and the good old favourite "liaising with community leaders"= speaking to al capone to keep his hoods under control. or any other variant of al capone etc.

this isnt my view, its way I'm seeing. Theyve long stopped giving a damn about WHO is right or wrong...all they care about is avoiding a scene.

Not so sure that is the case. It's more they can't win. As said, whatever they do someone will be upset.

that_impulse_guy is right, the easiest option that upsets the fewest because they will be hauled over the coals when they upset someone.

You could call it cowardice. You could call it pragmatism or you could call it what it really is, token gesture policing. Lets be honest here, policing the internet for naughty little bastards like us who call pikeys horrible names is a lot easier than going outside looking for burglers.
