Hello Everyone,

I have a 2005 GS500 as a winter hack and have pretty bad pitting on the stanchions now, I have done the super glue fix once before and think its time now to just replace them when I change the seals.

I've seen these on Ebay from China at £150 for a pair, has anyone ever used Cheap Chinease fork tubes ? from UK sellers I'm looking at £150-£180 per tube.

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/386094292531

I know alot of stuff is made in China now anyway and then just imported and sold over here, but if i think they are gonna snap in half on the first pot hole i hit then il just spend out on "UK" ones

Thanks in advance
Jack

How much would it cost to get your existing forks rechromed?

I have a set of rechromed tubes on my CB250RS. They're nice. Very thick layer of chrome, not as shiny as standard.

No way, chinese fork tubes?

The chrome will probably flake off in 5 minutes and reveal it's a big smarties tube.

I'd just send them for rechroming if you can't find any good used forks.

Just give your local electroplating place a bell

I'd think twice about having a Chinese headlamp bracket, no way would i be having Chinesium fork stanchions... either get yours replated or find 2nd hand replacements.

Rechroming is roughly £2-300 depending on who you use - however, they're all quoting insane wait times of 8 + weeks last time I looked into it.

I don't know if this is relevant to your problem but I'm using Suzuki GS750 forks with an MZ250 yoke, so if you've got 35mm forks you could probably pick up a set of MZ forks for nowt. They aren't bad and there must be zillions of them around because all the MZ bikes have expired.

I got some NOS forks for my CBF from Italy for 160 or so, if it were me I'd get rid of the GS rather than put money into it. Bang a set of neoprene gaiters on it, make sure the forks are as smooth as you can get them and run it until it doesn't run.

I hate GS500s and I'm surprised one is on the road still.

You could get them rechromed.

Or you could spend 1k on a different bike and not have to use a GS Laughing

Most GSXR fronts ends will drop straight into that headstock. For the cost of rechromed stanctions you could get a relatively modern front end with cartridge internals and some adjustment.
