There's a difference between the ignition barrel for the YBR carb model and for the injection model.
If you get the wrong replacement then you'll have to fiddle with the wires. If you don't want to fiddle then you might have to pay a few more quid to make sure you get the barrel for the injection model. (Though you'll pay a few extra quid and then they send you the carb one anyway so just prepare for the worst and hope for the best when ordering cheap off ebay)
What often happens is that water gets inside the barrel and sits on the connections inside thus corroding it. Then you end up with a dicky ignition like you've got. I usually squirt something like WD40 down there occassionaly to make it last a bit longer.
