I want to get new vinyl lettering made up for my petrol tank. Original badges are absolutely not obtainable.

The bike is an 80s/ 90s bike imported from Belarussia.

First guess Arial black?

Slightly cleaner version. It doesn't taper, I just lifted it from a photo. What I might be best doing is to break out the tracing paper then scan the tracing, clean up the lines and draw a vector over it?

Why do you need to know the font type?
Can you not simply contact a sign maker/sticker maker and let them copy what you've got?

Try https://www.whatfontis.com/ ?

Looks like there's a bit of fafferry involved but maybe worth a try?
My gut feeling is that the "M" with the wonky legs may be bespoke, ie it doesn't necessarily match the other letters...

They usually want a vector graphic, although it's been some time since I did one. Ideally I'll get a vinyl decal made which will want cut lines and stuff.

It's a starting point in any case. Now to inkscape.

I did similar for a JOTA t shirt I got made for my brother.

I loaded the picture (as you have ) and 'traced' around it in a cheap DTP package - maybe you can even doe this in MS paint - then 'printed' it as a PDF I think that teh T shirt vendor could use

Nice tool, but probably Sommet Heavy is a better match:

An alternative would be Eurostar Black and use an upside down "W" for the "M" (free for personal use font.)

Those are good because they have the kind of squared-off centre to the letter O.

Also found FacebookLetterFaces. Which has the angled M with the flat central baseline, ovalled O and equally looped B.

The "E" doesn't look right Smile

Of course there's nothing stopping you mashing up a couple of fonts if you're knocking up vector graphics in Inkscape.

Well, used a combination of FacebookLetterFaces and Eurostar Black and made my own letter N. This is a .png export, the original .SVG file is razor sharp and monochrome.
