The image tags don't always resolve well with paths. For example, Meme Generator offers this image link:

and if you try this:
| Code: | | [img]https://imgflip.com/i/89r0f7[/img] |
you get:
https://imgflip.com/i/89r0f7
What you need is the actually object - a jpeg or bitmap file. If you look at the image html:

we can see there's a file link lurking in there:

and if we add tags to that:

My imgur links dont include the .jpg file extension when I copy from imgur and paste them in here so I always have to add them myself
I can only assume it's cos I is a lady scooterist victim and this place is run by
rassis biggits

and i get

add.jpeg to the link, ie
