Hello,

Number 2 son, currently has a newish CB500F.

We (I) are about to fit a relay, for heated grips & phone charger.

I know how to fit a relay (I even wrote a massive post on this ~ 17 years ago on this forum).

However I am one of these people who in the past did do a lot of bike and car maintenance , but then got older, richer and time poor and then paid people to do things I once would happily do.............

Number 2 son, wants dad to do it.

Fast forward 17 years

From terminal 87 from the relay, years ago (if i've needed 2 connections), i've just used a piggy back terminal or just soldered wires together.

But thinking about it. On Amazon, there are things like this:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Motorcycle-Install-Universal-Electric-Vehicle/dp/B0CFYNCS9S

Or (i've loads of these already), but do people use them on the bike? )Do they handle vibration etc?)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/flintronic-Lever-Nut-Connector-Conductor-Connectors/dp/B09XJZ8TRB

Not sure what's the best method, just thinking if idiot son decides to add something else.

Hope this makes sense

I use these things which hold the relay and three blade fuses.

That is quite neat.

I like my fuses.

In the past I fused from the battery to the relay then individually to each device.

Do people fuse to 30? Or is it overkill?

Work out what your maximum expected draw is then go the next fuse up or the maximum current your cable will take and use the next fuse down.

I haven't fused the relay, maybe I should have (you also get relays with intergral blade fuses) but I'm not going to, all it would be protecting is the relay itself and the short piece of wire between the battery and the relay.

FWIW, it's best to use a suppressed relay: one with an internal resistor or diode in parallel across the coil. Relay coils are similar to ignition coils, and generate high voltage spikes when turned off. Voltage spikes can wreck havoc on sensitive solid state circuits, and cause electrical problems that are difficult to trace.
