Same here, but sadly, sub £500 ratty old hacks 's dont seem to exist any more with the possible exception of chinese 125/50's

There's certainly nothing really cheap on eBay... back when I was doing much commuting I tended to pick up hacks from people on forums, or someone who knew someone etc. I've just been offered a 250 Majesty for £300, I haven't seen it but it runs and has been on the road in the last couple of years, and been in a garage in the meantime... at that price it's got to be worth a look, even if I just service and MOT and flip it.

I was lucky to get my 250 Majesty so cheap moneywise but I did put some time into it which is fair enough for any old bike I suppose.
In many ways its all I need nowadays but I do have a hankering for
a cheap 400 Burg/Maj to tinker/play with

Honda CBF range. 500/600/1000. All pretty reliable and capable of huge mileage. 500 is particularly frugal and perfectly adequate speed wise even under 600cc.....

Importantly they're all available with ABS. Think you'd be bloody stupid to NOT get something with ABS for use as a bad weather hack.

I'm planning on getting my V Strom 1000 cleaned up and moved on when I get 5 mins, too thirsty for me, (and a bit of a beast in traffic, need something 650 or smaller it turns out, I've only got little legs)

If I can get the £1800 back I spent on it I would be happy as larry.
