Hi All,

I just bought yesterday a nice clean fsh low mileage gsxf, today i was sat at the lights and oil smoke started coming up into my face and ive noticed the oil drain pipes from the cylinder head are rusted and leaking.

For now because i have to be in skem tomorrow on a training course, im going to brake clean the lot and either epoxy putty the pipes or wrap some samco hose round them zip tied or jewbelee clipped.

But in the long run, i want to replace the pipes, are these just o ringed into the head, if so will i have to remove the engine, cylinder head replace the pipes and rebuild?

Will i need to get new head bolts? skim the head? is there a preferred head gasket i could use?

Thanks all - Joe

Also, the O rings that are in the picture over the head bolts, would i have to buy these identical ones, or is there a set universal size i could use?

you dont need to drop the engine to remove the head IIRC but you will need to take the fuel tank brace off the frame. The head studs and nuts on them will be fine to re use. You'r unikley to need the head skimmed but it might be worth getting a local engineering shop to check it for flatness whilst its off. You'd be best off getting a top end gasket set as it will have the o rings for the studs as well as o rings for the drain tubes too.

When you replace the drain tubes smother the O rings both sides with grease to help them slide in. These either fail from corrosion or from someone nipping the O ring and tearing it.

Ok thanks for the information, the only gasket kits I can find are complete gasket kits and they are like £120 seems expensive I don't think I've paid anywhere near that for gasket kits before, but I think I'll take the engine out and get it on the bench, I can then clean and high temp paint it again, I'll also paint the oil tubes and possibly dinnatrol them to preserve them for as long as possible Smile

If they have leaked because of a torn O ring then replace the rings and you should be fine, If they have leaked because they are rusted through then you may as well look for spares.

They are 75 quid each brand new if you can find some but they are used on a lot of models so you will probably find a cheap second hand set. They arent handed btw so no need to look for specifically a left one for example

https://www.bike-parts-suz.com/suzuki-motorcycle/assignment_spare_parts/1648117D00000 Heres the part number and compatibility list.

I thing a full gasket set for 120 is worth it, price up everything you need individually and you'l see it might be worth paying for a full set and having spare lower end gaskets especially if you want to take the cases off and paint it properly.

Pattern gaskets are fine but use the genuine O-Rings. Trust someone who knows.

I suspect there is a difference in the engine between the original and facelift GSXF but I wouldn’t like to guess what it is. I’ve always assumed GSXF and B6 engines are all pretty much the same in terms of metalwork.

Yeah, i just want to be dead sure im correct before ordering the gasket kit, i phoned suzuki the guy working there nearly fell over when he said "i honestly cant beleive this but the gasket kit is £511 plus vat, i think your better getting an aftermarket kit from the likes of Athena or something" just the 6 rubber head o rings are £8.97 each so compaired to suzuki prices, an Athena kit is looking like a steal tbh.

Thanks all - Joe

Athena gasket sets are known good quality.

this list will help identify what oil seals you need and their part numbers to cross reference.
