Bosnia is worth a look, notably for the contrast with EU-rich Croatia. You find yourself riding through loads of completely deserted, destroyed villages, 30-odd years after the end of the Balkan War. Very poignant. Even the cities like Mostar (famous for it's medieval bridge which was destroyed and later rebuilt) still has very many bomb sites and obvious war damage.

Wouldn't be detouring at the expense of the coast road though! (We rode outwards via Bosnia and inbound up the coast). Safe riding

I camped in Bosnia last night actually. Great place. I followed the river all the way down from Serbia before crossing towards the coast
