If using a concentrated coolant do you dilute with DI or demin water?

My tap water is hard in these parts. Scales up my kettle almost every week.

I have a good supply of DI water but it can strip ions from metals.

Not when it gets mixed with inhibitor it wont. Used to be sodium nitrite in coolant, not sure what they use currently but it'll be a soluable salt of some sort. Suffice to say, it will be thoroughly re-ionised as soon as it hits the coolant.

I suppose in that respect DI would be better because it'll only have the ions you want in it.

Also, if you want distilled, the stuff that comes out of condensing tumble driers and the ice inside your freezer are both distilled water.

Yes, although said ions will then be bound to another molecule so unavailable to carry out their protective role any further.

Might add 10% filtered tap water to my 1L DI - ionise it up a little.

Pretty sure it's fully aqueous out of the bottle.

Your kettle is filled AND boiled dozens of times a week. Your coolant is filled maybe once a year. Just use tap water.
