Hi folks. Anyone recommend a decent adhesive for the hand grips? I was thinking if either super glue of the one you get the epoxy resins thing you mix? Thanks.

I usually just degrease the bar and inside of the grip with a solvent then fit them with hairspray.

Superglue does work but can be a pain to clean off when you go to put some new grips on. I usually go with rubber cement if a little extra friction is required.

2nd on that, hairspray is awesome for grips. Lubes them going on, stays slippy for a few hours so you get plenty of time to realise they don't line up, then when it dries it they'll be stuck on harder than wedding night bedsheets.

As an added bonus, a can of hairspray in the toolbox starts more conversations than a tub of vaseline.

Win/win really.

Don't use any old cheap hairspray, get good stuff and don't use too much.

Yes, completely serious.

Using too much isn't really a problem except that it takes longer to set up and you might get a dusty sticky mess all around it (it does wipe off quite easily while wet though). "higher quality" hairspray sets faster, I'm tight so use tesco own brand and wait 24 hours for it to set.

I use it whenever I install grips - even on foam ones it works. It holds grips on bmx and trials bikes with no issues except when it comes time to get them off, may need to cut them off - but the hairspray residue is way easier to clean up than any glue product. Oh, and once set rain etc doesn't bother it ime.

Spray it in, slip the grips on, position, leave overnight.

Get the nicely scented stuff if you can - no practical reason, it just smells nicer.

Edit to add:

First time I tried it I sprayed it in and put the grip on, then left it for about 2 hours - when I grabbed it the grip was sliding and twisting all over the place and I thought "those bastards got me good, arse, bugger it, I'll clean it off tomorrow and try something else".

Tomorrow came and the grip was well and truly stuck....

Superglue is the 'proper' stuff - that's what the manufacturers supply when you buy them new. But you have to be really, really quick when you apply it - you only have a couple of seconds before it goes off - and if you haven't practised and done at least one dry run, you'll end up with the grips protruding a centimetre over the end of the bars, and stuck completely rigid..

Or so I'm told Mad

100%. Top shelf, right of centre "Extra firm hold" according to the label. I can assure you I no longer have enough hair to need it to control my unruly locks.

The talcum is for fitting inner-tubes before anyone asks.

I can't quite make out where you keep the vaseline (o-ring lube). It must be in there somewhere...

This is where I no longer feel uncomfortable saying that the big bottle of power-fist anal lube in my garage is only there for installing suspension bushes.

Still not sure why I get through so much of it.

What grips?

Material and design is important.

Generally, OEM grips are there for ever.

Aftermarket grips differ.
Cheap shite will not last.
Cheap shite will disinintigrate.
Cheap shite will stretch.
Glue is not the issue.
Superglue is fine.
A hairdrier/hot air gun helps to remove old adhesive. Except the throttle sleeve.
