Hi guys and girls

Not posted in ages visiting Edinburgh this weekend for a few days how safe is my Hayabusa going to be its a old shed. But i would still rather be able to ride it home after. as the hotel im staying at has no parking so it would be on the street.

Two different types of lock onto something solid. Tracker. Good luck.

I used to live in Edinburgh. I wont go there on a bike now unless I can get it into a mates lockup.

Try yourparkingspace.co.uk there are quite a lot of secure carparks about the place where people will rent out a space for the night. They put the transponder in a lockbox by the entrance and send you the code by email. Not always all that expensive. I got two nights in an underground carpark literally right on the royal mile for £25 on a recent trip (in the car).

I'm just outside Edinburgh. I would park my bike in certain ares in Edinburgh. Depends where it is really. Bike theft is quite common in Edinburgh unfortunately. I just use a disk lock but I don't fret about it too much, else paranoia.

Last tour I did a tour around there we had 3 bikes nicked from the group of 8.
2 of those stolen were not in the best of condition.
One of them was never recovered.

We were staying on a large static caravan site with gated access and cameras.

Soon as we arrived a tenant/holidaymaker mentioned that bikes had previously been stolen.

I parked the duke right outside my bedroom window and slapped on the disc locks.

Theft sure took the fun away from an otherwise good week, we vowed never to stay around Edinburgh again.

Taken all three of my bikes to Edinburgh and left them full day while I went around the sights or shopping. Only ever put disc locks on them (except my Zontes I left it with nothing but the steering lock).

Always came back to my bike. Parked them these places with no issues:

1. Outside GuitarGuitar on St. John's Road:

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@55.9429851,-3.2907198,3a,75y,213.52h,74.98t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sTHpAMjPDBgvC2VBJlxJbaw!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3DTHpAMjPDBgvC2VBJlxJbaw%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.share%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26yaw%3D213.52139949832124%26pitch%3D15.01816766800691%26thumbfov%3D90!7i16384!8i8192?coh=205410&entry=ttu

2. On Castlehill approach behind this little bollard (didn't get a ticket or anything),

3. In Edinburgh Castle Car Park, normally over beside the monument:

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@55.9488489,-3.1964623,3a,57.3y,291.35h,90.92t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1s0Z3mdrxISFX6YDcRr9QwZA!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3D0Z3mdrxISFX6YDcRr9QwZA%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.share%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26yaw%3D291.3547447487938%26pitch%3D-0.9164138274958304%26thumbfov%3D90!7i13312!8i6656?coh=205410&entry=ttu

4. At Jeffrey Street, in the motorcycle dedicated bay:

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@55.951286,-3.1864739,3a,90y,22.55h,69.38t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1sNpO9ZgF5PQ1vwEy4DXrEbQ!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3DNpO9ZgF5PQ1vwEy4DXrEbQ%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.share%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26yaw%3D22.549528596750005%26pitch%3D20.615365028416548%26thumbfov%3D90!7i16384!8i8192?coh=205410&entry=ttu

5. At the National Museum of Scotland, in the motorcycle dedicated bay:

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@55.9478025,-3.1882882,3a,75y,190.51h,77.29t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1s5vzLdA-b01E2yYrGmgxUJw!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3D5vzLdA-b01E2yYrGmgxUJw%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.share%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26yaw%3D190.51204888950102%26pitch%3D12.709459398280998%26thumbfov%3D90!7i16384!8i8192?coh=205410&entry=ttu

6. Up beside this little wall, in a dodgy resident-parking-only car park, near the Crags Sports Centre since there was nowhere in the centres car park unless I put it up on the grass:

https://www.google.co.uk/maps/@55.9443648,-3.179721,3a,75y,313.19h,76.91t/data=!3m7!1e1!3m5!1s30_jNkbTAIBqDFaaootaug!2e0!6shttps:%2F%2Fstreetviewpixels-pa.googleapis.com%2Fv1%2Fthumbnail%3Fpanoid%3D30_jNkbTAIBqDFaaootaug%26cb_client%3Dmaps_sv.share%26w%3D900%26h%3D600%26yaw%3D313.1850353227235%26pitch%3D13.094009711581023%26thumbfov%3D90!7i16384!8i8192?coh=205410&entry=ttu

Literally never had a single problem parking any of my bikes in Edinburgh.

Of the above, I'd say number 6 would be extremely dodgy.

The thieving shites use the Innocent Railway cycle path through Holyrood park as a transit route. They wheel them into the tunnel near Pollock halls and fuck with them there to try to get them running. If you look at the banks either side of the tunnel, it's littered with bits of motorbike and empty purses and wallets. From there, it's a hop, skip and a jump to Craigmillar/Niddrie without having to go on the road.
